I come on here quite often, usually more to read than to write, but I haven't really said much about myself. My main interests are backing and bringing on youngsters and showing, but I do a bit of jumping/dressage/XC etc for fun. I also compete in student riding for my uni and on the GB squad. At the moment I have Mel - 13yo 15hh overheight connemara, he's an ex show hunter pony, now enjoying life doing a bit of everything: Percy - homebred 20+ year old ex eventer who's loaned to the hunt kennels over the winter because he loves it so much: Chatty, who I've had for 2 months. She's 15hh and rising 4 And Buttons, rising 3, 14hh and enjoying being a scruff!

lovely horses. I would also love to have a go side saddle. Is it hard to teach a horse to go side saddle? sara xx It's not difficult to teach them if you have the right kind of horse. They need to be well mannered and well schooled to start with, going from seat and voice aids and know their canter strike offs and it's better if they have a smooth trot (for obvious reasons!). A horse that's very short coupled can be difficult to fit a saddle to, because side saddles are longer than normal ones, and side saddles tend to slip if the horse doesn't have prominant whithers/is very round. Most horses will take to side saddle very well if they're generally obliging.

ooh he's gorgeous jen1. I think if he lost a bit of weight he could take a side saddle well, he's got some definition there, just his shoulders are a bit loaded. The main problem is the old side saddles are often the best, and they were made in the 1920s and 30s where they all rode TB types!

Buttons is New Forest/Cleaveland Bay. He's a really cheeky chap, I'm hoping he'll make a PC allrounder type.
