Sorry tl - spent time trying to sort out the problem myself - but they are off to you now. Glad you had a good day ... I think you can confidently say reserve champion is a perfectly acceptable result!!!!!!
Wills - blimme! There is excitement for you ... after Jacob's recent lack of anything like success, I'd positively rejoice at a sixth!
Aberlemno, in the high and far off days, oh best beloved, Angus and I made our living at highly professional craft fairs... as did many many others. The grapes are plainly sour!
I have to admit the idiots, unless racist, did not much bother me … but the inability to see all the threads does. I do sometimes go and look at other topics, but increasingly don’t bother.
As to how long George and Clare actually last – who can possibly tell? As Rue said, she would say it was bound to end in failure, but as she started going out with James when she was 17 …..
I’ve finished the top, and beaded a front panel for the bag and for the flap – just picking out the design, not heavy beading. I think I might do a bit for the back, too. But I have no idea how I sewed the last one up!! At least, not bits of it. And I can’t decide on handles, and really really must finish it by tea time tomorrow, as I need to drive in the evening.
Mace is consistently driving as though nothing happened, though he did start a bit when a cow came running down a field shouting her head off, and her calf suddenly poked its head over a hedge like a jack in the box!!! Mind you I don’t think he jumped as much as I did!

Yes, a lot, especially the stories. I was reared on 'the village that voted the world was flat' Why? Oh, of course - in the high and far off times, oh best beloved, the elephant had no trunk ....
And I am still the cat who walks by himself and all places are alike ... to me!

Esme - what a nightmare with the trailer, I am glad your friends horse continues to be fine travelling. I am afraid I didnt read that thread on the old DG so I dont know the whole story, I am assuming you had loads of suggestions and have tried them all? Goodness, no easy answer to that one! Hope his leg is improving
Smuttley - ah-ha, I was right, it IS you! I must admit I have stopped taking my camera to horse trials, as I used to take my 35mm with a zoom lens, and found I was spending more time peering through it to get pics than watching/enjoying the event. If I get into the digital age I might try again. Are you going to Blenheim for the Europeans?
Rosemary, M was a real pain when we did our bit of in-hand showing. He didnt paw in the ring but he would NOT stand still. The only thing that sort of worked was the clicker, but I can see that probably isnt going to be effective in this instance (and you have tried it anyway). Everyone suggested to me to back him up etc. which was totally no good for him as he was quite happy moving around, like Jacob WANTED to move, and it just gave him an excuse to wriggle about even more! Everyone elses youngster would be standing beautifully too - but then I consoled myself with the fact that for the show, off he went without any stick-waving-behind-back (not that I had /needed one!) 'shooshing' or people outside waving plastic bags etc. Incidentally, the block of wood thing was attached by a leather adjustable band, like a wrist watch strap, which was above the knee and obviously slightly loose so you could get a couple of fingers behind it. Tie on the wood with string, small block about 2" x 3" with hole drilled in middle for the string. I think it may be a Monty thing too as I remember seeing in USA you can get what is almost like a bracelet of heavy beads to put round the coronory band so that it rattles and clonks the hoof when they paw. This was Richard Maxwells diy version.
Aberlemno - I really wouldnt be put off about your bags, if people like them. A lot of people only sell through craft fairs, because of lower overheads etc., so I would ignore snobs who say it is just playing at it. Too bad if it undercuts 'real' crafts people, they all do the craft fairs too and you get a different clientele anyway, just like auctions and antique shops.
Wills - you are keeping up the Scary Day tradition by having one by the sound of it - lol - and what an exciting show to boot. I would love to see a pic of your friends Section D (as you may know 2 of my boys are Ds)
tl - you sound to have had a good show too - well done to all concerned there. I have seen Riding of the Marches on TV, and would love to see it in the flesh. I think 'Coast' may be about you tonight? We will be watching to see the joys of Orkney.
Well, I do hope emw's do went well yesterday. We did get the rain here at about 11am and it kept going most of the day, heavy in the morning but more of on & off thick drizzle in the afternoon with bouts of heavier - then stopped by 6 and the sun came out. I could see from the field that black clouds and very heavy rain was still falling over the Brecons and Black Mountains - and it looked the same towards Bromyard (emw). On the local tv they gave a severe weather warning at tea time for torrential rain, severe driving conditions and thunder - which I have a horrible feeling may have caught Bromyard, so I hope the evening do and camping wasnt a wash out. It is a funny spot here, the weather often passes us by, it seems to follow the river Wye just a mile or so down the hill and circle round us here on our hill. We couldve done with more rain for the poor old grass, but it has greened up already after yesterday. Dry today so far, quite bright with little clouds scudding over.
Phil is finally back from stopping with various friends with his mates while their parents were away (hence my getting Mum here while we were away!) Hopefully his digital camera has batteries so I will get him to do 'the feets' and post later on.
Is it just me or is it taking AGES to read and post on here? OH has noticed how long I spend and is making comments! I touch type and am quite quick but the new format is very very tedious I am finding. As you can see by my few posts logged, I am really only coming to Scary Day now and that is it. I do miss the other where I did read and post on all sorts!
Have a nice Sunday folks

Evening all ....... well I am back home and refreshed myself with a warm shower and hot meal ........ and am very tired but pleased with how the "EMWn event " went DESPITE the abysmal weather ...... The satying power of the people that did turn up was phemominal .... aand the determination off all the exhibitors to casdsy on in our support was tremendouse . Yes Jude that solid rain DID hover over us from about 11 -gone 5 .......... uuuuuurrrrrgggghhhhhhhhh ......... many of us got well and truly soaked and since many only had summer gazebos as shelter ........ most get a bit wet !!!!!! However that stiff upper lip of the british horseperson prevailed and many stuck it out till the displays ended. Only the people that were camping over stayed really so we did not do the auction ..... the rain stopped and we were able to sit out and drink wine and have a good chat / listen to music till about 10pm ... than we all feel inot bed We are absolutely overwhelmed at the support shown and we thenk iover £2000 was raised ...... you can see other threads on the demo for pics and more news as we recover ...... sooryy top tored for personal tonight ans as m yliitle light bilb blown a,m typing by the light of the puter screen ..... not easy

So pleased the EMW day went well despite the weather!
Just wondered if any of you watched "Coast" just now? No sign of tl but wonderful shots of the north coast of Scotland and the Orkneys. Caught sight of a puffin. What a beautiful , wild place to live!

Off to sort out mum, horses, dogs etc any minute. Just wanted to say - Ann NF - I have managed to watch the last two Coast programmes - so they haven't forgotten what makes good television after all? Had me fooled these past few years though! I am absolutely smitten with it too, just fabulous scenery, local history and GREAT programme. Want to get the lot on DVD now (poss. for OH's birthday pressie, to make a change from a book). Did you see the Pevsner programmes beforehand too? I missed half of the one about Hampshire, but changed channels in time to catch them going to Bursledon, which I know very well, and then the Isle of Wight. There was a programme about Pevsner himself afterwards, which was equally good.
Speak to you all later.

Hello All
Just thought I'd give a report on my weekend..hope no-one minds! Starting on Thursday..this was an awful day which brought some news which had me wandering around in tears most of the day..didnt even bother going to get my hair cut..just moped around!! Anyway we set off on Friday and it was a long journey..but some really lovely scenery. Got to our B&B to discover I had brought the charger for the camera batteries but no camera..brought the camcorder but no cartridge and no hairbrush! On Saturday morning I was up bright and early and so looking forward to the day..discovered I had brought the wrong belt for OH and so his trousers wouldnt stay up(had to go buy one)..forgotten my painkillers..fleece and socks!! Oh and just for good measure I had forgotten the directions Elaine sent me!! So we get to Bromyard and spent 15 mins in the police station with a lovely policeman who couldnt tell us where we were going either..but he did go on the net and find me elaines number!! What a lovely location EMW is in..the fields are so well kept. Anyway was having a lovely time despite the rain..which didnt really dampen the spirits of anyone there..I loved the driving demo of Taz in her bitless bridle:) By the time 1 o'clock came I knew I needed some painkillers..the bloody pain had been niggling all morning but I thought it would ease..no such luck..anyway to cut a long story short I was frog marched by OH back to the car..taken back to B&B and sent to bed whilst he went and bought Nurofen/Paracitemol and Ibrufen!! Took a cocktail of pills and fell asleep..with the promise from OH that when I woke he would take me back to meet everyone..didnt wake up till after 10pm:( How sad was I? I really wanted to see the demo but more than that I wanted to meet everyone. I did see faces with name tags but didnt introduce myself as I thought it would be better to do so when everyone was winding down later in the day..another of my less than bright ideas! I still enjoyed myself for the time I was there though..the sadddle fitting demo was good too and I had a lovely chat with the stall holders there and I got the Perry Woods book and the Richard Maxwell one..also when I was sleeping OH went out and bought me one on birds (bless him)!to try to cheer me up. We had to leave very early on Sunday as the concoction of pills was not really working(thank God I have the hospital tomorrow).I slept most of the way. We did stop once at the Shire centre in Cotebrook..I had a lovely chat with the owner and he gave me lots of tips for dusty. So although I actually made it down I did not get to meet anyone:( OH has said he will take me again but he will do the packing as I forget so much! And not until I have had things well and truly sorted with this bloody womb of mine! I have to say that Jinglejoys' mule is beautiful..thats the first time I have seen one up close and I was really impressed. At the Shire centre I went for a little walk and fell in love with a young stallion..he was beatiful and such a sweetheart...he stood for ages lettting me scratch him and when I walked away he came bounding down the fence and stuck his big head over and ever so gently nudged me to a halt and then positioned himself for another scratch! We played this game for about 10 minutes but my legs were a bit shaky else I would have stayed for ages:)
I did ask OH if he had his cheque book but he said "NO NO NO"! lol He enjoyed his wee break too though..although he got left with all the driving to do. He was very impressed with all EMW do and said he did not relaise there were just so many nice people in the horsey world..never mind the world! So now he is thinking that if we ever get the chance we should start our own wee sanctuary..when he was looking at the before and after pics he was truly saddened by what he saw but as I said well impressed by all that EMW do for these animals. He was a bit miffed at me though (for forgetting my pills)as he was looking forward to meeting people too..he has always had to listen to me talk about my cyber friends and feel a little left out methinks. I think the next thing we save for now is to be a small caravan..then we can just pop in and meet some people wherever we may be and then be on our merry way again.
Congratulaions and a BIG well done to EMW and all who gave their time to help with this..just sorry I didnt get to meet you all.!
Jude..I didnt get your email till I got home as I hadnt switched comp on after I had been on early Thursday..thankyou for your offer though..next time hopefully I will make it!!
Personals later as I am tired and going back to bed!
Hope everyone is well

Monday again *sigh*
I don’t mind this new board too much, but it does make for slow reading for some reason. I find myself quite unable to keep up with everyone’s news! What with the wedding being less than two weeks away now!
Jude – so sorry you had a hard day with your Mum. It seems everyone has some problems with relatives, doesn’t it?
Glad CK’s doing well though!
Jennie – glad Fahly’s on the mend too. How did your ride go? Sounds like you’re have a major reshuffle garden-wise! My garden consists of a 3 foot dragon fern sitting on the kitchen counter, a spider plant in an old oil can that’s currently sitting on the top of the boat, and a massive, evil cactus that needs repotting!
So sorry things have been said about your bags. People can be really mean sometimes! I paint and draw, but I do it for my own enjoyment, very few people see them, because I couldn’t bear it if anyone criticised them!
Will you STOP being such a domestic goddess please? You make me feel so guilty with your bread, butter and scone making! I used to make my own bread when I was at home with the boys, and I loved doing it (pounding that dough was so therapeutic!) but I simply don’t have enough time any more!
It is hard being a part-time Mum at times. I miss my boys every day I don’t see them – and they’re not much for conversation on the phone! The OH doesn’t really understand – it is hard work when they are with us, and in a certain way it is nice to get back to peace and quiet when they’ve gone home, but if I had the option of them being with me all the time, I’d take it in a shot!
tl – your “digester” sounds really interesting! I’ve seen those composting bins you can get, but never heard of one of those before! Keep us posted!
I’m definitely the casserole queen when it comes to cooking. Chuck it all in and shove it in the oven (or the slow cooker!) I do enjoy making a proper meal, like a Sunday roast, but it takes so long, I’d rather be doing something else!
Love the story about your pet tawny owl. We used to have barn owls in our barn when I was growing up. You’d see them ghosting over the field – so beautiful. We get all sorts in the woods across the river – it’s a positive cacophony of different calls, but you rarely see anything.
So pleased your friend did well at the show.
Rosemary Hannah – Lol at Jacob! No useful suggestions I’m afraid.
Esme – such a shame that Daniel hates school. Is it simply an age thing, or is he being bullied do you think? Both my kids (so far) adore school and can’t wait to go back in September. Might be because they’re mightily bored though – my ex doesn’t do much to keep them occupied during the holidays.
So sorry things didn’t work out with Beckham in the trailer! Glad to hear your friend’s horse has no lasting trauma!
Smuttley – can you post piccies of your gsd, pretty please? We have an 8 year old, who still thinks she’s 2. I have a nice digital camera – I can take up to 250 shots in one go, so I too take heaps and can then look back through and delete the rubbish ones before downloading them! Took some fab ones of a firework display when we were on holiday. I keep trying to take some action shots of Kira – but as there’s not much action going on there (apart from eating) I still haven’t managed it!!
Hope you enjoy your holiday!
Wills – HAPPY BIRTHDAY (if the calendar’s got it right!) Sounds like you had fun at the show – even if you did fall over! Hope you weren’t hurt! Well done to you and your friend!
Laura – what a shame that it rained so much. But glad that so much money was raised! Well done!
Lynn – Thanks for the report on the event. So sorry you are still suffering so much. I hope you feel better today.
Just a quick update – S starts his chemotherapy today. My Mum is back with the cancer specialist on Wednesday, the surgeon she saw last Thursday is going to recommend to him that she finally has the operation, and she will hopefully start to feel better. The surgeon told her she could go back in the swimming pool – which entails lolling about on a lilo with a glass of wine in her hand – no actual swimming!
Had a pretty quiet weekend – we watched a lot of the athletics and I stormed on with my embroidery – I can’t stand just sitting and watching TV, I have to be doing something as well!
Jenna xxx

'morning folks, and there's nothing good about it.Dank, windy, wet and no visibility to speak of.Another day to add to our sunless summer.
Aye Ann,beautiful as Caithness is in sunlight,it's an all together different experience for most of the year.Like us it puts up with quite a bit of bad weather. Radioactive shore lines arn't to be taken lightly either, and the gale driven seas have dispersed particles who knows where...Something about beauty being only skin deep perhaps, and ,what a disgrace and crying shame! Easy to see where the nice weather ran out wasn't it? Maybe they intended exclusively featuring the Royal Oak on the programme, or perhaps our fog filled days forced it upon them.
Lynn what a pity you wern't able to enjoy yourself more, you had been looking forward to the emw day for ages. I feel it's about time they sorted your maternal inner workings out.Surely you have been putting up with these problems for long enough? Get to it girl and insist!
Jenna,I do hope all goes well for your friend, and that your mothers operation goes smoothly and is a success. You are having a worrying time at the moment too.
Hadn't noticed it was your birthday Wills, Happy Birthday from here:make it a good one!
No photographs Rosemary, but I see there's a nice one over of WW,so am assuming you have managed it yourself.
I think the only comment worth taking on board about your bags Aberlemno would be the kiddy swallowing beads one.I'm not sure how it would be possible to get around that problem.Would a printed tag,or sewn in label suffice? The rest of the remark was crass in the extreme, and I agree with Rosemary, the grapes were definitely very sour.
Well, it's no day for outside, so it will have to be the domestics for me, what joy!

I’m sorry Lynn’s day got dented by her health. But I’m very glad it was a good day for EMW – in my youth I used to ride on mules and jennets at Weston, I think it was. I spent most of my day helping out and in the evening got to ride them home (not all at once!) and ever since have rather longed for a mule. But in truth I have enough with the ones I do have.
tl, I’m puzzled by the non-arrival of my photos, they went off days ago! But I think I can now do it myself, and I soon will!!It was mistaking photobox for photo bucket. Dyslexia is fun – not! Sometime it MUST stop raining – you might get a golden autumn. How are the slugs? Still at bay?
Oh, Jenna it must be so hard being apart form the boys – big hugs. Big hugs for your Mum, too – poor lady!
Boxes and trailers are something of which I have almost no experience … nothing to offer but commiserations.
We’ve had it dry too Jude, but rain today – but of course not as dry and as long as you. Just strange for us.
I had not noticed the birthday1 Happy Birthday Wills! Have a really good one, and may the prefect loan horse find his/her way to you!

So glad the emw day went well, and that you missed the 'severe weather' they were warning of on tea-time local news - I kept my fingers crossed it was further up/east. I cant believe it though, the ONLY day in WEEKS to have rain, our field sucked it in like a sponge, but today you wouldnt think there had been any (apart from a slightly greener tinge to some of the grass - top field still desert-like)
Lynn, I guessed you didnt get my e-m before leaving, but never mind, call in if you are this way again. We are a little way from Bromyard anyway, sitting literally within spitting distance of both Gloucestershire and Wales. What a shame you felt poorly and missed most of it though, after coming all that way too. I hope you and OH enjoyed the break anyway, and that whatever upset you before you left is sorted.
Shep, hope OHs daughter is okay - I thought Doug the cob was very quiet??!!
Jenna, fingers crossed for S and your Mum with their medical stuff. I hate anything hospitally, I have a real phobia and cant even watch things like 'casualty' on TV!
tl - not so much of Orkney on Coast - as you say, perhaps the weather wasnt the best for filming. Very worrying about the nuclear fuel wasnt it - think I had seen something similar about that before. OH was interested in Scapa (spl?) Flow though of course. Beautiful scenery, OH quite smitten.
Rosemary, hope you are overcoming your sewing frustrations - sewing is rocket science to me anyway - lol!
Aberlemno - Phil has been glued to www for the past 24 hours virtually! However - he has gone off with his friends again now, so phone line is free if needed.
Wills - Happy Birthday from me too!
I have taken some super pics of 'the feets' but as Phil left an hour ago I have no expertise to post at the mo. I must get him to show me and write it all down - apparently he says it is easier on this board?!
I dont think Phil will be back tonight as he left with a back pack and promises to ring to let me know what is happening so I know if to expect him for food etc. I am assuming another friends parent is away! Am I a grumpy old s*d for NOT wanting between 10 - 20+ 18 to 20 year olds moving into our house while we were on holiday, most of whom I've not met? I wonder if these other parents realise (I bet not). Although daughter found my Mum a little irritating being here while we were on hols (to put it mildly) she was grateful as she is very shy and she did not want to have to be here with hoards of Phils friends, and was worried. Even though I had said this was not acceptable I know he would have taken no notice as he deems this unreasonable on my behalf. Mum was an excellent deterrant!
Very humid again today. I gave CK another school round the field this morning and he is making good progress. I am going out to do some groundwork with M in a mo - he is very light to handle, I hope it transfers into ridden work. Quite bright and sunny/cloudy too (sorry tl, feel guilty when I mention good weather) More fruit on the way, as the Autumn Raspberries - my favourites - are just starting.

So you should do Jude, joking apart this year has been very tedious, and as for fruit, we have NONE! The wind blew everything from the vines and the salt ladened atmosphere put paid to the rest. So, no lovely blackcurrants, raspberries, only a few lonely gooseberry remain. Not enough for a pie!
The bumble bees are frenetic.I don't think I have ever seen such behaviour before. There have been so many wasted days for them.Yesterday they were coverering what is left of the honeysuckle, and the air was filled with very angry buzzing, the bedraggled roses were being worked the same. I have a great fondness for the bumblebee, and they seemed particularly anxious to me. Geese are coming in again now.Their 'v' formations straggle the skies. We have had a poor year for grass; their early arrival is bound to be less than welcome.
Barley is changing colour and the hips are becoming red, apart from that the world is very grey.
