Howdy all. Belated Happy Birthday Lynn! Why didn’t you tell us??? Lol at the blinds! Did you manage to get them sorted in the end? I’m so sorry it should have been your wedding day. Perhaps soon eh? You’ve definitely got the measure of my ex – he IS a prat!! Shep – glad your OH is doing a good job on the feet – can he come and do Kira’s please? What a shame the mad pointer isn’t preggers. Will you send her off to her boyfriend again? Mrs Silkie and her chicks sound adorable! Jude – so glad CK’s feet are doing a little better. Long may they improve. The OH asked me the other day when I would need to shoe Kira for the first time – I said “hopefully, never!”. I don’t want to shoe her unless it’s absolutely necessary – and being welsh x arab she should be OK (we’ll skip the TB – ‘cause it’s only a bit….) I agree with you – don’t browse as much as I used to. With the old one, if an interesting topic popped to the top, I would take a peak. Now I can’t be bothered to look through them all to find the interesting ones. Esme – sounds like a lovely arrangement you have with Dunston! Bet he gets spoilt rotten! We’ve got a George Foreman grill too! Gets used regularly – bacon butties being a regular in this household (boathold??). Can’t beat a steak done on it – a sprinkling of pepper and a squidge of worcester sauce – oooh yum! I’ve got a good excuse not to bake – my oven on the boat is rubbish! It’s like the ones you get on a caravan – not big enough and doesn’t cook evenly. That’s my excuse anyway, and I’m sticking to it!! tl – another beautiful picture! I spotted the bee! When we were struggling at the beginning of the year, when the OH’s aunt was ill, as well as his Dad and my Mum, someone said to us (and I wish I could remember who) that if we didn’t have really bad times we would never know how good the good times are. I wish things would hurry up and go from “bad” to “good” though. emw – best of luck for the Demo Day – I do hope it stays dry for you and is a blazing success. Lots of piccies, please! I have been trying for ages to get some good action shots of Kira. When she moves she’s stunning. However, she doesn’t do it very often! So I give up – here are some piccies of her in November last year, at 8 months old, and some taken a couple of weeks ago. Hope they come out OK! The first time we turned her out: At 16 months old: Holds breath to see what happens …..

Afternoon all,
Feel quite mellow, as we've just been out to lunch on another of The Times special offers. This one was 'Buy a main course get one free plus free large glass of wine'. Very nice too - but we chose a starter as well, (as only another quid each) of sweet potato and caramalised red onion soup - but the onion was NOT red and NOT caramalised! Told OH he should have told them but he just chuntered to me instead - lol! My farrier knows the chef there, one of his clients, so I will tell him. Neither of us feel like doing much now, so will chill out for an hour then OH back to plastering what was the kitchen, and me doing horsey things.
Shep & Aberlemno - you posted when I was typing last night, so sorry if I appear not to have read what you had put - fact is, I hadnt! - and logged out straight away so have only just seen. You had already had a suggestion about Mincer museum Aberlemno. Pillows still working well, although OH finds them comfortable he has a 'thing' about liking cold pillows (??!!) and if he wakes up in the night always turns them over to get the cold side - mad IMO. These pillows feel -to me anyway- pleasantly warm all the time, so he is having to get used to them. They are alledgedly £25-£30 each in shops, but at the show they were only £8 'special show offer'. For the money they were an excellent buy, even if the shop price was exaggerated (which it may not have been given what you were charged)
Esme aka Shy. Dunston sounds an absolute treasure. I am sure he will give you so much confidence you will soon be charging round the galloping field with true abandonment. Must admit I am not as fearless as I was in my youth now (if only). Sounds good that DW has been offered work after his work placement - he must've impressed!
tl - I am finding this new board is curbing my chat a bit. I suppose we will get used to it in time, but it is definitely putting me off. Stick with us though, we would miss your wonderful input and piccys to the thread.
Jenna, Kira looks stunning, what a sweetie! I bet you are very proud of her. It is lovely having a youngster isnt it? I had never owned anything younger than 4 before, and having M as a 5 month weanling has been a real experience. It has really brought home to me how important early experiences are - not that I didnt realise anyway, its just reinforced this. I am still convinced TC had some bad things happen to him handling-wise - although he does have a stroppy temperament anyway - which is why I have been ultra careful buying horses ever since. I bought CK direct from the stud having met his parents first - he was seen every day and handled occasionally - but he led a very natural life in a herd on the Brecons, lovingly cared for by his breeder. When she introduced us to his sire she called him from a 30 odd acre field and he galloped up to see us, leaving his mares, just for a cuddle. I think that is why CK is so well adjusted - his inclined-to-be-spooky nature is just him really, and his medical problems have made him wary of strange people since I have owned him, but he has the most wonderful temperament generally, definitely part inherited and part kind handling from birth. Knowing what has happened to a horse from an early age is definitely a big plus isnt it?
Lynn - so THATS why the DG didnt know your birthday! I tried to check on my profile as I have probably done the same, but it didnt let you go back to dob (that I could see anyway). Well, mine is only next month so I will wait with baited breath to see if I am acknowledged or not. If not everyone will be sending me greetings on 9th Feb - lol!
I have only just twigged that the emw demo is THIS saturday. Big panic - I have lost track of the dates with OH being on hols - I thought it was a week on saturday! I am now in the position that, although we definitely are not going to Wales this weekend, I havent got anyone to go with. OH wants to get on with the plastering etc. before his hols run out and says he cant afford a whole day off at present. Daughter is on hols, 2 other friends who were interested in coming are on hols, I saw another who wanted to come this morning and she has a family birthday bar-b-que! Not quite sure what to do at the mo, as the cyber friends I know there, like Laura and Elaine will be tied up with organising, and dont want to gate-crash on Lynn and OH on romantic weekend away (who might also think I look like a mad axe murderer anyway - lol!).
Funny day today, very cloudy and overcast - but dry and humid. The boys were covered with flies this morning, TC had about 40 bluebottle types sitting on his back, which all went in the most satisfying manner when I sprayed them. Not as many midges as a few weeks ago (thank goodness) and they are okay if I do ears/belly and T's mane & tail with goo. Glad you have your rain Shep, it is such a pain without water.
Right, off to play horses now - speak to you all tomorrow.

;D Yippee! I have at last persuaded mum to attend a 'taster day' at a day center!!!! She was totally against it at first, but I promised her that I will stay with her and if she doesn't like it she doesn't have to go again; if she DOES like it (Please God, let her like it!) I will have five hours to myself one day a week!!! I will think I am in heaven! It's not that I don't love mum, but 24/7 every single day gets me down, I want a bit of time when I can ride without worrying that she is getting upset waiting for me, and she does not like staying with my sister for very long. At least at the day centre she will meet people her own age and can make friends; I was struck by the similarity between this situation and the time when my children were first going to Nursery... my words to them were the same as my words to mum.... 'You will have a great time, you will make lots of friends and there will be lots to do...' Fingers crossed that mum enjoys it, our first day is next monday. Wee Cap the pup is still okay, he has started to wobble around and is the cutest little guy you ever saw, bless him. His tum is healing well so I am praying he will survive. I have been experimenting with this new board and have sent a couple of personal messages, tl was my guinea pig, and I have sent one to Lynne too. I do miss the old DG though.

This will be short and sweet as I'm off to an auction again today, so have to get myself organised.
Shep - Fingers crossed for you that your mum likes the Day Centre. I'm sure she will quite enjoy it once she's there. You're right about it being like you have a little one again, having to encourage etc.
I'm glad that Cap is doing well and I hope you soon get to sleep right through the night again!
Jude - I have been eyeing up the Rowan trees recently, and will make some more Rowan jelly as soon as the berries are ripe, and then earmark a few jars for your OH.
There are things I would like to say sometimes too, but don't like to blurt things out and then think "oops", so perhaps the personal messages will come into their own soon.
I wish I was free to come to EMW's demo and keep you company, but no chance I'm afraid. I'm sure Lynn G and her OH would love to meet you.
I could do with it raining long enough to top up next door's water, as it's HIS I use in the yard and that dried up in June. Touch wood, our spring seems to be holding out still.
Jenna - what a poppet Kira is and a lovely extravagent movement she has. What a difference from cuddly rounded foal to lanky yearling : ) Her lovely nature shows in her face and eyes. How big should she make?
I've always had youngsters - in fact, Fahly was the first broken horse I have ever bought, apart from my TB brood mare Roushane (Roo), but I never rode her out as she was in foal/with foal at foot in the two years I owned her.
Drat - I've done it again and not written this in Word. Back to you after the auction.

Morning All
tl..I found the horse quote on an internet site but it did not say who it was by..the dog one is from my calendar and is attributed to..annonymous!! They are so true arent they..thats why I liked them I suppose. Yes I noticed the wee bee..had to lok twice as at first I though..oh whats that! Very nice of you..thank you. How did the hospital visit go? I hope you are ok? I have told OH that next birthday..its Orkney I must go!! Last year it was Skye. So maybe I shall get to meet you and Peddie Tam!!
Jenna..oh Kira looks so sweet in those first 2 pics..and isnt she turning out to be beautiful as well. What height is she now? Oh I would have loved to have owned one of mine from as young as that..I'll bet you have had lots of fun already!! What a pretty face she has and she looks so contented. I particularly like the first one though..she does move well..whats her breeding Jenna? I know you have probably said before but I have obviously missed it! Are your boys interested in horses at all?
Jude..glad you had a nice meal and to be accompanied by free wine..well what more could we ask for eh? lol You should have just told them about the onions etc..i am afraid I am one of those who do comlain if I feel the need. Alfie and OH get ever so embaressed but I do it in a nice way..i am not paying for something which is not up to scratch. Once though I sent my food back because of a hair in the gravy..my stomach was churning and I felt sick because of it..I told the waiter I did not want anything else as that had really dulled my appetite and put me off..however out he came 15 mins later with another plate..I refused it and also refused to pay for it...manager none too happy but I said "I did not order a meal with human hair and nor did I order a second meal so I am not paying"...eventually he gave up as by this time I was well and truly pissed off and people were looking..OH and Alfie were cringing and said I should just have eaten the meal!! Jude you are more than welcome to join us at the demo...you will not be intruding at all..romance comes second to anything remotely horsey! OH tends to wander off and leave me anyhow..or is it me who wanders off?!! If you are coming it will be lovely to meet you and you mustnt feel like you are intruding..the demo day is not for romance(that comes later).!!
Shep..Oh that is good news...I will send as many thought waves as I can to your Mum..perhaps a begging letter to a hypnotist might sway thing in your favour!! Seriously I do hope she likes it..I think if she gives it a chance she will enjoy herself..fingers crossed. You must try to post us a pic of wee Cap..he must be a right wee fighter..also having you to care for him has helped..I remember taking in a stray when I lived in Glasgow she produced 6 pups 3 days later! She was too ill and tired at first to care for them but after about 3 weeks she managed...but oh the sleepless nights I had!!
Getting my hair cut this evening..didnt think I should go anywhere looking like a scarecrow! Mind you I find the people I get on best with are the ones who like me dont always have the time nor inclination to look good!!
EMW..you must be pretty busy now! See You Saturday!!
Take care All

Is it Friday yet??
Thank you for all the lovely comments about Kira. I can’t believe she’s changed so much, looking back at those pics! It only seems like yesterday she came off the lorry, all pop-eyed and astonished!
Her Sire is Hendrewen Deryn – Welsh Cob. He’s dark bay like she is. Her Mum is a grey part-bred arab, the other bit being a bit of TB, Section B, and Riding Pony! Her estimated full-grown height is 15 hands ish, however she stands at 14 hands already, so I have an inkling she may be slightly bigger! She has enormous knees! Even the farrier says she’s a “lovely girl” which coming from him is a huge compliment!
She’s so laid back. I’ve been trying so hard to get some action shots of her – because when she moves she’s amazing. But she’s usually either eating or doing her dopey donkey impression! They were playing the other day when it was windy – but I didn’t have my camera on me! ARGHH!
My youngest will take ‘em or leave ‘em. He likes coming up the yard because he can get dirty and jump in the hay, and he’s happy to help with water and feed, but the horses themselves he’s not that bothered with. My older one loves them though. He’ll spend hours grooming, picking up feet, and he always wants to learn.
When he was eight he used to ride my just-broken 3-year-old (with me next to them, obviously) but I knew I could trust her to look after him – she was getting on for 16 hands, and he’d take her out to the field, and she’d put her head down so he could take the headcollar off. She’d put her head in his arms for a cuddle, and pretty much knock him off his feet!
Jude, will you STOP talking about your lovely new pillows while I’m at work please? Makes me want to crawl under the desk for a snooze!
Shep – I hope your Mum enjoys her taster at the Day Centre. It’s so difficult to persuade parents that not all change is bad! We’re still working on getting the OH’s mother moved down from Aberdeen – his sister’s found her a lovely sheltered flat near her, and she’s coming down at the weekend for a look.
Glad Cap is doing well – sounds like he’s going to be fine. I hope he’s letting you sleep a bit at night now! Look forward to seeing some piccies!
Jennie – hope you enjoyed your auction! Buy anything?
Lynn – I like your quotes too! I’m useless and finding things like that – can you find me one??
Jenna xx

Oh, sorry - keep forgetting to say -
Thanks ever so much for all the well wishes for S. I went to see him yesterday (to pick his mum up). He was sitting on his bed, holding court - there were about 8 people in chairs all around his bed - he absolutely adored being the centre of attention! His bed was covered in chocolates, sweets, Macdonalds wrappers ... So I think I can say he's doing OK at the moment! They're going to make the decision as to whether to start Chemo today (they have to make sure there's no chance of infection).
My Mum is also back with the surgeon today, to decide on her next course of action, although she intends to refuse any more Chemo and insist they do the operation.
I'll keep you posted!

Back to a morning post as Phil will be back tonight, so no chance on the 'puter (unless he goes out again). I will get him to do the feets piccy though. I am so glad I took the pics now as it really does show the difference - I had forgotten just how bad they had become. I gave CK 30 minutes round the field last night, just walking and trotting round cones etc. Last time I did it he was mostly fine but a bit 'ouchy' on the hard stony bits. He was as good as gold this time, felt very free in his movement and trotted over everything as good as if not better than shod. I jumped off worridly afterwards, peering at the feets for bits falling off - lol - but all was fine. Please please please let this work for him. I'll do a few more sessions in the field I think - the poor boy is very unfit apart from anything else - then I will take to the roads. I saw my friend who has Connies yesterday, she has had something similar, although not quite as bad as CK, with one of hers. Her farrier suggested a break without shoes and the feets improved - but she has re-shod now. She is watching CK with interest, but is sceptical about barefoot generally for a working horse.
Lynn, I will e-m you as I havent worked out how to do a personal message yet (if you havent left already) LOL at you and your hair in food incident. The soup we had was actually very nice, just mis-described. OH of course does have sympathy for the Chef so was torn between the kitchen being inefficient and 'idiots at front of house' getting it wrong! It was the first time we have been there , and OH had wanted to try it for a while so the offer was a good opportunity. It was on one of those 'fly-on-the-wall' documentaries 3 years or so ago - the one where they followed people doing a lifestyle change into a completely new business. There was another hotel on that prog that is not far from here which, after watching the prog, you wouldnt entertain visiting! These people came across as reasonable on the prog, and actually listened to advice. Lovely oldy worldy place, and they have a food rosette. OHs general verdict on the food was 'Okay, but not outstanding'
Jennie, its a shame you cant come to emws do but never mind I can understand why not. I seem fated not to go dont I? OH has just been muttering on about rain too! Good luck at the auction, lets have a full report. Must say that although I dont normally have the TV on in the daytime, if I am ironing or having lunch I do rather enjoy Bargain Hunt (does that make me very sad? - lol!)
Jenna - sorry about the pillow-talk - lol - I will shut up now (bud did have a WONDERFUL nights sleep again!) Glad S is keeping his pecker up - fingers crossed for him and positive thoughts. I am not really an expert on Welsh Cob breeding, just had fun in researching my boys family trees so have a couple of books. I thought in your last 2 pics of Kira how much she looked like M in shape & build - right down to the enormous knees! Just looked up Hendrewen Deryn, 15.1HH and goodness what a cracker - thought I had heard of him. Kiras Grandsire, Derwen Rosinas Last - not sure of his height, was full brother to M's - Derwen Llwynog (15.3H). M's parents were around 14.1 and he is about 15.1 at 4 - with a little more height to come - supposedly a throwback to these tall Derwens. I am betting she wont stop at 15, M was around 14 hands as a yearling too! H Deryn looks superb from the photo - and what a performance record in all disciplines - you really have a winner there. Is she registered as p-b Welsh? There are specialist classes round here for Welshies, not just showing, but performance as in jumping and hunter trials - worth remembering for the future if you are up for some fun!
Shep - everything crossed your Mum likes the day centre. I can imagine it must be like starting a toddler at school. Do we women ever get time to ourselves? We go from looking after our children, then its parents - then we are galloping towards old ourselves!
Rosemary, have you been to the show yet? Hope Jacob behaved well.
Think thats everyone since my last post. I am going to give CK another half hour round the field now, and do something with M and TC too. TC is really getting into clicker and has taught himself to do things he has seen M doing. When I tried it specifically with him previously he just got stroppy and didnt want to do it - but watching M seems to have brought out his competitive streak - and I get 'nice face' to boot! He is definitely improving now he lives with CK to keep him in order - although TC and M do squabble at times if CK isnt close enough to intervene - although they do place 'chace' and 'sticks' nicely together too! Both want to be 2nd in the pecking order.

Shep - I do hope things go well at the Day Centre. My late Mum was very reluctant to "be with all those old people" because she just didn`t see herself as being the 84 year old she was ( a symptom of her dementia - not just wishful thinking on her part). However, she did go a few times, until she had her first stroke and was too ill to go, and she did enjoy herself! I think the good midday lunch was very well received. She enjoyed the company but she wasn`t too keen on the group physio sitting in a chair .Saw it as a sort of Butlins activity I think :0)
Will you be keeping both pups? If you are looking for a home for one eventually, my Leeds friend may well be interested. They live on the edge of the woods and moor just north of a Leeds suburb . Their old dog had a wonderful active Border Collie life with them. They travel up to Aberdeen regularly as daughter at Uni there, so distance may not be an object.
Jenna - everything crossed for your Mum when she sees the surgeon.
I love the Kira photos. Beautiful action.
Hope everyone else is well. Must check WW then off to do some more outside.

Hello everyone! What a fancy new board! Scary Day has grown a lot since I last posted - now you have to guess who I am! lol Just thought I'd say hello again, and hello to the new people on the thread ) I was at Gatcombe too, Jude, I managed to take some nice pics, which I'll post once I've figured out how to do it here!

hooray, it worked (assuming it's not just me that can see it!) that was Angus Smales riding Cornsay Grouse (I think) Then we have the winner, William Fox-Pitt, one nice jump and then surviving a hairy moment in the water: and lastly (for now) Vittoria Panizzon for Italy on Rock Model somehow managing not to fall off! Yes, she stayed on (though they jumped the string into the crowd, nearly running us over!) and continued her round!

Well, that is it - son has fledged. this is the elder horsey son - he left home yesterday to start his new flat share with his partner Kenneth. Of course he'll be back, but only briefly, as a visitor. I'll miss him terribly. Yesterday we had a good day at the show. It was Jonesy's day, and he got a second in the under 12.2 in hand class. Here are a couple of pictures of him and my son. Jacob had an off day. He went into the ring thinking it might be fun – then fall into bored trainer toe scuffing mode. Exasperating as he was doing ‘in hand’ fine at home, and managing to look fairly interested. Partly we had had to lead them in (still no saddle!) and he had got fed up with leading – he thinks it is boring as you can go faster ridden. It is over five miles, and he was well fed up. I did ride bareback (and what a state I was, I’ve lost the knack!) in the off road bits, but it is mainly on road. Then he had to walk round and round on a muggy afternoon – and then he had to stand still. Standing he went back to pawing. Now, I have some ideas for sorting out the leading (clicker to make it interesting!) but none at all as to how to sort out the pawing. Any suggestions? (and then I can explain how I’ve tried it and it does not work!) The local show ground has been re-arranged and the horses all have to wait in a totally separate area to the rest of the show, so you have no idea what is going on at all – not good for people like me on my own with no box – all I can do is wait with my horsey and get glimpses through the trees. I don’t even see the other horsey events. Instead I get to hear results interspersed with taped accordion renditions of Scottish favourites so wheezy that in the distance they sound like those south American pan pipes. Glory Lynn – that is JUST what I would do with a blind too! My mind set exactly! Shep – hope your Mum takes to the day centre – is she compos mentis enough to realise the difference it would make to you? These situations are such agony, aren’t they? I dunno, Ann, that I’m so far different form your Mum – I find it terribly hard to see myself as a 50+ and often find others of my age group (not the lovely lively ladies on here of course, but the ones one meets at social dos, who only seem interested in soft furnishings) terribly boring. Loved Kira – cherish every moment with her! This is totally daft - I've transferred these pictures to photobox, and they are just so small! Whatever am I doing wrong!

Well that's our area show over and done with, the County Show happens on Saturday.Dull day,but at least it didn't rain! Plenty going on.Incredibly strong Shetland classes and quality stuff. I'd spoken to the judge down at Caithness. He was well pleased with the animals forward today.
And,what do you know! I'm not a gismo type of girl, but we came home with an enormous freebie courtesy of our local council. It's a Green Cone, waste disposal unit. Anyone got one? As ideas go I think it's worth a try, only problem being it has to be sited in maximum sunlight.A bit of a laugh that one, as this year we havn't seen the sun. OH has to dig a fairly substantial hole now to bury the lower part, then it's a matter of all kitchen waste in the top,and hey presto, the stuff should disappear! We have even got a natty little bucket thing so that we don't have to wheesh out everytime we have a couple of teabags that need throwing away.According to the literature we can use it for the dog poos as well...there will be no knowing us now.
Shep, got you one to one, when I figure out how to do it,will send one in return. It would make such a difference to you to have a few hours to yourself,so I hope and pray that your mum likes her day centre, and that they don't spoil it by physiotherapy & games.etc. on her first day. Some of these places seem more of a play group than much else. Not suggesting card games, like strip poker, (yee gods), but do hope it's congenial and not contrived,if you see what I mean.
Hmmm.Rosemary, dosn't sound like much of a day for you. Kinross is like that. If you are showing, you see nothing.
I loved that baby, arn't they glorious at that age? A wonderful thing to watch them grow up.
Domesticity calls,any suggestions for tea?
