This is the first time I have read a Scary Day thread so I'm not quite sure what it is all about. Is anybody else allowed to join in and if so are there any special criteria to join? Or shall I just get my coat? ;D

Napster..welcome..hang up your coat and join in.
Shep started the scary day threads with her wonderful accounts of her trials and tribulations when looking after some cattle for a neighbouring farmer. Now we all just come on and have a wee blether and its a great thread for support..we are a nice bunch!
tl...you keep making me laugh today!! A pleasant change from my doldrums..thankyou!
Rosemary..my birthday is the 9th!! Are you taking Jacob to the show? Hope all goes well with Mace..he does sound just my type you know. You will miss Duncan..how long before he comes back... so to speak?
Just had a lovely walk with Rico..have half painted the woodwork in my bedroom and half stained the decking in the garden..not the most constructive of days!! Does anyone else ever get those days when you just cant settle down to one particular task?
Michael decided to dye his brown hair blonde..turned out a lovely shade of ginger..he was not impressed..so we had to try to turn it back to brown!! lol It still has a ginger shine to it when hit by sunlight! What on earth possessed him I shall never know....I was looking at him and thhinking..something strange..something different..and then I noticed his eyebrows seemed ever so dark..almost black..then I seen his hair..oh dear..it was so very hard not to laugh!!
Off now to have a weee bite to eat.

Well, back again. Fahly and I had a lovely ride today - breezy but quite warm - and he was as good as gold until we saw a bonfire, a Jack Russell in a hedge, and then an HEB (Horse Eating Butterfly!) in quick succession. We were half way down the steepist bit of the hill home, and then heard something very big coming our way. It was a blue tractor the size of a bloomin' bungalow, towing a low loader with a huge yellow JCB on caterpillars behind it. Fahly was very good, and worried a bit, but the chap went past very, very slowly for us. Then blow me, if he wasn't parked up further down the road, but he said he would reverse up so we could pass. No trouble again. THEN when we finally got to 100 yds or so from home, we met next door's biggest yellowest tractor (the sort with 6 feet high wheels) and though I asked him to slow down, he barely did so and Fahly and I squished up against the hedge in the pull in, Fahly wishing he was anywhere but there, I could tell. I shall have words with Ginger-bonce and his side-kick tomorrow. . .
I've just gone out to bring Fahly in for the night, and he suddenly thought that the hosepipe had turned into a snake when he stepped backwards. He then LEAPT hugely sideways and backwards and managed to catch his near-side cannon bone with his shoe, so he's had to be cleaned off and purple sprayed. That will mean another permanent bump on his leg - though I may actually dress and bandage it later on and hopefully it won't throw another lump. Horses . . .

That sounds like one exciting ride Jennie! So far , Ginger has only met sleeping JCBs. On Wednesday, with Sarah, we went past the JCB at next door`s building project . Ginger not worried and went to sniff the caterpillar wheel. I told him to bite it ( confidence building to show it he was in charge) at which point the builder came out looking very worried .He was not meant to hear LOL!
tl - I know just what you mean about the diamante browband....However, we have all arrived safely here on the "other side" so you are obliged to stay, please? I am equally technophobic ( you can post wonderful photographs so are definitely in the next class up ) and will be ignoring the gizmos.
Lynn- we have also had the ginger hair period when Chris was a first year at Bristol. He has naturally very dark brown curly hair, tried to go blond with some Sun-In and came home looking like Chris Evans (DJ) on a bad day. It was very funny (not for him) and he soon made an appointment with our local family hairdresser who got her little bottles of chemicals out and fixed the problem. Not sure what he would have done without her!
Napster -hello! I only drop in here occasionally but there seems to have been some interbreeding between Scary Day and Wakey Wakey over the past months and both groups are very friendly. It is almost like a cyber garden wall to chat over. For those of us who are often at home in the country without near neighbours it has been a great support and good fun.

Well, I managed to change small j to big J all on my own, and Phil says he will help me with other techno stuff (so, your forum has finally gone into the modern era then Mum!!)
Guess what - when it welcomes me it says 'Hey Jude' - ROFL! (Sorry, that has just rather amused me - little things etc......) Apparently we can now send private messages and all sorts - however, it would be nice to have info on what all the little icons etc mean and how to do stuff as it is all Greek to me.
tl - I'm with you. All this bright yellow and boxes etc I am finding rather odd and offputting. I am also horrified at how often Scary Day is read (anyone with me on that?) I always imagined we are such a bunch of boring old f****, as you so graphically put it Aberlemno, that no one except us bothered to read it! Also, already we are on to page 2, we are going to have to start new threads on a daily basis or be ploughing to the bottom all the time.
Lynn - did I take it in correctly? Are you coming to emw's open day? I am hoping to go if we arent away so can meet you there. We are about an hour further south than emw. I can bring your cd!!!!!!
Well, I dont think I can read all this yellow tonight, so apologies for no more personals - it is going to take some getting used to. Also, have to give the boys their tea and want to watch 'The Mummy' which OH has just come in to say has started. At the moment it is all too weird and feels alien I really am 'loosing the thread' of what is happening. Gosh, really am a boring old f*** then - lol!

It will have a big advantage though - pages! You can just go to the page you want ... which will make a heap quicker to download, Though all the gismos will go and slow it down again.
No I always suspected it was kind of over looked, this garden. What astonished me was that we never got 'orrid 'nons - I think we INTIMIDATED them.
Riding - what is that Jenny? I'm dying to get my saddle back, but Monday is the very earliest I can hope for it, and it may not come back till after the show. Both ponies are going in hand, but I don't fancy walking the whole way in, so if necessary will ride in bareback till we get to the town - most of the way we can go off the road.
George is in BIG trouble (only at home, thank goodness) again - not doing as he should, not doing tasks paid for in advance, being a right Kevin - all that stuff. This time he really IS going to be stuck at home for some time till EVERYTHING is done.
And welcome, napster - tell us a little about YOUR day?

Hi everyone.Spoke to Honor tonight. She will be back on line in about a fortnight... mentioned you are trying to contact her, Wenna's mum.She will give you a phone. Sounds like it's all busy, busy, chop, chop,in Aberdeenshire. No doubt she will have plenty to tell us in her own inimitable style. Jude.Coast will be over us on the 14th.They will be doing Scapa,so your OH might be interested. Glad I'm giving you a laugh Lynn:as far as this new format's concerned I don't think it's funny ,but then I never have liked change but,as long as I'm managing to cheer you up that's OK How is Armbro these days? News of him has sort of got lost amongst other things. Why can't I scroll this up to see what everyone has said? Grrr.I'm never going to get used to this darned thing. Slopes off towards bed!

Aberlemno..thats does sound exciting..Fahly seems to have taken it in his stride though..apart from the "snake"! Hope his leg is ok and no more bumps! We are quite lucky..our farmer also runs a plant hire business so things like this are the norm for my lot..the only thing I can rmember that really scared Cracker was one of those machines with the circular brushes that sweep the roads..we met one on a small country road with little room to pass..driver very considerate and turned off the engine..forgot the yellow light though and Cracker done a very good crab imitation whilst passing it..and to do this he had to walk on the verge which was in actual fact a pretty steep wee slope..the look on the drivers face didnt half make me laugh!
Ann NF..what on earth must that builder have thought?! lol I do similar with scary objects..but I tend to go up and give them a good old slap first and if I can I sit on them! Read your post on WW..really nice to hear of your forest friends..there must be plenty more who come to you when the going gets tough.
Jude..I was a bit wrried too when I saw how many time this thread has been read..on the old forum I always felt that it was really only us lot..with perhaps a few lurkers (as I used to do). yes Jude..I am coming down for the demo!! But ONLY bring cd if you are finished with it..I have enough to read and am trying to concentrate on my shiatsu for now..so if you need it longer you are welcome. I am really looking forward to it and I have promised myself that i shall shake off this feeling of gloom I have and for the whole weekend I shall not once mention to OH all that has gone on..I think I have gone on about it too much and he is feeling really guilty..though he has done no wrong..I have to stop and take a hold of myself..it's not the end of the world..just a few unfortunate happenings which are best left alone now..I fear I have made things worse for OH by slopping around and moaning! Hence the poor souls ready agreement to bring me down to the demo!! Oh I hope you can make it..would be lovely to meet you! How are all the "feet" anyway..just a thought.do you think perhaps your farrier would be interested in the cd..or would he perhaps be slightly offended as I know he does a good job and you get on well.
Rosemary..what are Gismos? Hope you have a nice time at the show..shame about your saddle though. Alfie has gone through that stage too..the taking cash in advance and then not doing the jobs..I witheld all pocket money after that and for a while he got none..he soon learned not to do it again! Oh teenage boys!!!
tl..glad to hear Honor is alive and well..looking forward to her update. Armbro is doing fine thanks tl..phoned the vet the other week to arrange time for his blood test and he said to leave it a little longer(again!) as he seems to be improving...still in through the day and out at night..emailed the Proffesor again and he said that probably get a better result if the tests were done 3 months apart..so I shall wait less impatiently now!! How did your daughter get on at Braco? I didnt manage to go.
Off now to have a walk and then do some housework..which I have been threatening to do for days now!! SIGH!
Take Care All

Morning all. Just a quick update on Fahly. When I went out to feed him just now, he had quite a puffy leg, but I'm hoping when I turn him out he will walk off a bit of the fluid. So I'll give him the weekend off to mend. We have now re-routed the "snake" by the way. It used to be lower down in the mud, but I'd stupidly pulled it up on top of the mud as it had a sharp kink in it, so it's all my fault (usually is in this house!)
So instead we shall concentrate on giving the girls an outing today, and taming Itsy's unruly locks. She has already made a start on growing her winter beard - she moults it out in late May and starts growing it again about 6 weeks later . . .
Lynn G - it will be brilliant if your OH brings you down to EMW's demo. Just the sort of break you both need right now I would think. I can just imagine my OH's face if I told him we were going to anything horsey together - definitely a "thanks a lot, but no thanks" face!
Fahly is brilliant with traffic (apart from stupid men in lycra on silent bicycles). It was the fact that we had so little room when the yellow tractor passed us at speed, and when it blocked out the sun Fahly tried to bury us in the hedge (very wise too Fahly). I shall have words today.
Is the wedding "on" again now that youngest son isn't coming to live with you after all? I take it there will be certain close family members on OH's side who will NOT be getting an invitation?
I currently have quite a hold over youngest son (I only have the one mind you!) as he owes me £50 for the computer update so he could download music for his MP3 player. I think that covers several acres of field tidying (the dreaded DOCK).
tl - that's brilliant news about Honor. I should imagine that they have both been working their socks off up on the new smallholding.
I shall start watching Coast now - it sounds brilliant. Don't know how I came to miss it to start with.
I'm not having too many problems with the new layout of the DG. I can scroll up and down, and it's easy to click forwards and backwards on the page thingy at the bottom.
Oh, btw, I sent you an e-mail with a link to Talley Abbey, but it got returned to me. Are you still having computer probs? I'll find the link again and put it on here, as it gives some super photos and a bit about the history.
Rosemary - I must admit, I never really thought of us being "overlooked" either - it's like moving out of the wood into open countryside, so a little bit peturbing!
I'm always very aware of giving away personal details which might show exactly where we live, but it's difficult to write and hide everything personal. (Interestingly, the nasty anon who "owned up" on the final day of the old DG said that people were so free with their personal details on here and that's why she'd had a field day. Personally I think she was completely "twp" and totally unhinged. Feel sorry for her horse if she has one . . . if you treat people as she did, you are going to be less than understanding as a horse-owner too. She seemed to pick mainly on teenagers, who she obviously felt were fair game and wouldn't fight back. We are made of sterner stuff on here!) I feel on here we don't give that much away actually, especially the folks with pseudonyms for their horses (J!)
Hope your saddle is returned sooner rather than later. You must be itching to get out with Jacob again. Duncan will leave a big gap when he leaves again too, and I doubt that "Kevin" will be doing much to fill it - in a positive sense that is. I recommend a pair of very pointy shoes Rosemary, and a target on the back of his behind!
Jude - did you enjoy The Mummy? We watched it again too - have seen it so many times we practically know it off by heart!
Ann NF - sleeping JCB's are OK, but this one was having a piggy-back! He WAS brill - wanted to run away and hide, but kept his nerve, bless him. Glad we didn't have Maggie out with us that time . . .
Dyed hair - oh dear - I have got it to come with Tam, who has already shown me a wonderful colour blue in Nomads which she proposes to use in future. She has quite off-the-wall taste in clothes too, and reckons she's a practising eccentric already! She has some wonderful Alice-in-Wonderland striped tights in various hues, various electric colours in fishnets etc. Her sister won't be seen out with her in such attire - she is very High Street Fashion and no frills and flounces.
Welcome Napster - we don't bite! Tell us a bit about yourself.

Just very briefly, before going out. It is possible to get a 'closed' yahoo or other group. It works for a group of people who are invited by a technically competent moderator to join a closed yahoo group. that is - you can only read the posts if yoiu are a member. Yahoo groups are a nuisence to work because of the advertising, though you can go for the option of getting emails delivered to your box - that would be fine for me, as I have Pegasus and can have all the emails I want open at once arranged however I want them (so like bathroom tiles, next to each toher. That would give us total privacy, if we wanted it. Just a thought. Because we do rather write about personal stuff.

Must remember to tell Honor not to use her own emoticons.Someone or something inserted a nasty little yellow face where I added mine! What do we do to avoid them?Type emoticon-smile or downturned. Excuse me! I don't want to be dragged kicking and screaming into the very doubtful present! I prefered our nice garden.
Bit of blue here, and decidedly Autumn.Fridays gale blew the leaves and rose petals everywhere, and the night is falling in much quicker now.
I take it you still have no idea what caused Armbro's problem Lynn?I'm so pleased though to hear that he is making steady progress.A day out will do you good.I hope it's hugely successful and that you all enjoy it.
Ann,thank you for your kind words.I have a picture of Hoy that I will put on especially for you.It is a magic island without question. It has everything.Frowning steep hills, upland walks, and the boulder bay of Rackwick draws painters, musicians and poets the world over.Watching the waves come in there is awsome!
East Mainland Show day here Rosemary. We get them all over in the same week.Very strenuous, but works well.Fitted in between haytime and harvest although hay is rather a misnomer this year.We shall have to see what harvest brings. The barley's still green!
Hope your lad hasn't caused himself more misery Aberlemno.I know how he feels.I am a bit crock myself in the walking department today, hence sitting here instead of at the show!
We are still getting our email system up and running. Everything has changed at the same time, and there are some problems in sorting it all out.
I still havn't had chance to catch up with everything so apologies if I have missed someone out. Have a nice weekend everyone.

oh dear, a bitter sweet day here for us. The puppy , now named Lexxy, has just left to go to her new home. Parting is hard. Such a sweet puppy but a lovely home with lovely gentle people. A funny kind of day, lots to do but time to reflect and tidy away before the next one comes in...and out I must get into my devasted garden, Nellie is into construction (or destruction!) so I need to fill in a huge crater next to my lovely lemon bush rose! Al the horses are on the herbal wormer sampling again which caused a stampede for their respective buckets this morning. Amy and I stood watching them all galloping straight at us right from the bottom of the meadows towards us! ..a do or die moment - judging when to place the buckets and run!!!! LOL :-) then we had lovely sanctuary visitors but they were all in hooligan mode and embarassed me by behaving thugish - as did Pearl too - like naughty children the lot of them! Fancy having to apologise for bad manners! Good to see pretty much everone here but sad that we have lost our old playground too. this board, though all singing and dancing is very much a muchness with the rest....a shame..I liked the old format... Hope Fahly is ok Aberlemno, they will ar*e about won't they and then find the nearest hazard to eek! at! LynnG, looking forward to meeting in person now. I can't believe how far away you had to go to book a B&B someone enterprising should open B&B's in Bromayrd and around then - they would make a fortune so far we have 18 campers plus oursleves! - quite a party on Friday evening I would say! tl- I'm pleased you haven't dissappeared too. I don't like change much. Jude -with-a-capital-J -lol... well done...you seem to be getting on well with your horses now, doing loads of things, having a young puppy in has slowed things up a bit here lately. Rosemary Hannah - EMW will, for certain, be having other fundraisers in the future so maybe next time for you. do you think we should find our own group on the net then? Lots of people do don't they. Napster and Wills - hello from me too. we just talk about life as it is really, mostly mundane things but normal life just the same. Welcome ... that's it for now..need to go do someting positive now. More advertsing ...never a dull moment lately! emw
