Yeah it is amazing how they change colors. Like I said, I wonder what color my arab was in her youth. Here Fawn (PA Phazons Fawn) is at twenty two years old. I am open to theories on her former coloring. I see the trainer that owned her mother once in a while and when I see her again I will be sure to ask.

Hi KAS, sorry to butt in. Is Fire your mare that has Kissing Spine? If so, is she the one with the (ooohhh, ahhhh, loooovely!!!) newborn? Just wondering, because my mare has been recently diagnosed with low grade KS just behind the saddle region (slight implingment of 3 vertabrea) and i will not put her back into ridden work, but was considering a foal because she is good quality and it would give her some purpose. Not sure though because of the weight, vet wasn't entirely sure either. If that is Fire with KS, did she cope okay? I know it's such a wide area regarding speculation of the varying degrees of pain with each individual case.

Hi tilly, sorry to hear about your mare. No, Fire IS the newborn in the picture The fleabitten grey is her mum, Someone Special. The photos are all Fire, believe it or not, what a colour change eh? I've been advised not to breed from Fire, which is a real shame as she has great bloodlines. The vet said it would have to be AI, but at least in her case we wouldn't know how much strain/pain the weight of the foal would cause in her back. Your horse has a really pretty face Buckskinbabe, is she fleabitten all over? I just noticed your post about manes and tails going. I would say yes they do sometimes. A lot of Arab friends have warned me that Fire's mane and tail will get more sparse as she gets older.

Dont mean to butt in lol, lovely pictures of Fire KAS by the way I know of a mare with kissing spines (doesnt sound as severe as Fires case) who is now a broodmare. She is AI inseminated and manages to carry a foal with absolutely no problems. I believe she has bred 9 foals now, the eldest being 13 who the owner still has and none have developed the same problem with kissing spines. Shes due another in 6 weeks then I think her owner isnt going to breed from her anymore (shes 20) I do know she is kept on flat ground when in foal but goes up onto the hills 6 weeks after foaling. Maybe talk to your vet with regards putting a mare with KS in foal? Hope Fire is doing ok KAS, did the FAL rug you sold me used to belong to her?

Hi Jo, thanks for that but the vet thinks that Fire has almost certainly got "something going on" in her hips/hind legs as well that they haven't been able to diagnose. She is in some level of discomfort all the time, but as she's a tough bird we're not sure how much. I don't know if I can bear to post a photo of her now, but she has a huge belly because of lack of muscle tone in her stomach (can't use back properly), very wasted hindquarters. If you drew a line down behind her shoulder she's like two different horses I think that each horse with kissing spine needs to be treated as an individual, so best to speak to the vet. My regret is that the vets didn't diagnose her at their first attempt, when she was less than 2 yrs old. If they had she could probably have comfortably had a foal when she was younger and the condition wasn't so advanced. Bred to a black stallion she'd have a high probability of breeding a black foal - I always wanted a black arab. The rug you had Jo belonged to a beautiful bay Arab gelding called Shabbah, which was short for something meaning Golden Phantom. He is an exquisite horse, a bit smaller than Fire and quite Spanish Arab looking, with 4 white socks. His dad is Shapoor. He was with me for a while from the Blue Cross, but far too much for my hubby, so he had to go back and we brought Joe. I wonder where "Shabby" is now? I was so fond of him, I sat on the ground and sobbed when he went away, but he had to go because he wasn't really for me and would have killed my ex.

Why would I mind? She's lovely! Reminds me of Isis - I will find some photos later so you can see. I think Isis's "real" name is Georgias Kola Isis, but would have to check her bloodlines with my mate. What's Periannath's breeding?

My friend has an arab chestnut mare, and she breed a foal off her, he is 9 now, he was born a chestnut and still is a chestnut (stunning).....
