I use canter and cowboy magic although today i borrowed an even better product (need to look at the label as forgotten what it was called). But i was thinking of making my own (the shop ones are so expensive). I have used baby oil but was thinking coconut oil and it has been suggested fabric conditioner.Anybody else got any homemade recipes??

I've tried many different home made ones and none have come out as good as Equine America Magic Sheen, economicallly priced and works fabulously well. I don't like Canter as its so slippy as are most of the silicon products on the market.
Coconut oil is good for conditioning but it is greasy so i only use it on tails and then wrap them so it soaks in.
Fabric conditioner makes your pony smell like Grandma and doesn't detangle whatsoever, makes the coat soft for 5 minutes.
Head and shoulders conditioner (not shampoo as too drying) is fab on scurfy coats, massage into a damp coat and rinse off, Tescos brand is actually milder than the real deal and cheaper.

For every day I normally use Carr Day & Martin mane & tail, but for special occasions and party's I use cowboy magic - its brilliant stuff. In the muddy winter months I normally put a bit of pig oil through her tail, it works a treat

I use canter mane and tail to start with then rub pig oil through manes and tails. It's working a treat so far this year.

I use Asda's smart price fabric conditioner and furniture polish, 1 then the other, works really well.

I use good old Pig Oil! A little on your own hands 'fingered' through manes and tails does a smashing job for us. I Knew a showing fanatic that used to swear by using fabric conditioner years ago... then she used to spray hairspray through the tail too!!

Pig oil for me too! Legs, mane & tail - and you can cloth-wipe it over bodies too, although I don't bother

Canter mane & tail silk for my arab's delicate yet wavy-so-prone-to-tangling mane & tail.

I've always use canter but since putting pig oil on his legs I've taken to wiping the excess off my hands onto his tail and that's working incredibly well. doesn't smell as nice though!

Canter is brilliant, however an £8+ bottle is gone too quickly, whereas I paid £20 for 4.5l of pig oil about 18 months ago and still have about a quarter left

Just remember to spot test with the pig oil first to make sure they don't have a reaction. Might be better to get a small bottle to start with just in case. Gold Label do 500ml bottles.

I use Avon kids hair detangler it is about £1.50 and smells lovely. I do in winter put the cheap coconut human hair conditioner from tescos in their manes and tails and just leave it it is great too. It is less than a pound a bottle too
