My little cat circled after she had a stroke - apparently it's one of the main symptoms in animals. I should have mentioned it before but I am afraid I had forgotten. She recovered enough to enjoy her life for another 2 years but had a final stroke at 17. Good Luck with your boy x

Hi - he is much better in himself today, seems much more co-ordinated and is interested, still gobbling his food down. The farmer told me he found Tom twice this month cast in a shallow ditch and he rescued him with ropes and his tractor - I had no idea (he didn't tell me!!) and I'm devastated he went through all that without my knowledge. We struggle in the winters as it is, so I chatted to the vet, and we both agreed it would be kinder to let him go with dignity, while he is comfortable :-( . I just have to choose the time and place now I do think if I don't let him go he will end up in distress and I owe him not to let that happen - although I feel sick at the thought of ending his life when he isn't entirely ready - I haven't had a horse pts yet xxx

A brave and selfless decision. All the best for an easy passing.

So sorry to hear this but I think you are doing the right thing for your old man. The fear of not knowing is worse than the deed itself and always remember a day to early is better than a day to late. Theres far worse things that can happen to an old horse than to pass over surrounded by love. Hugs xx

Hugs to you, you are doing the right thing. I let my old boy (only 17yo) go last December as he was going downhill physically and it wouldn't have been much longer before he was at real risk of getting down in the field and being unable to get back up. It is hard letting them go "early", but I have never regretted my decision with Cosworth, he really did not have much longer left and the vet agreed that it was kinder to let him go and save him any more pain.
I have kept one other pet alive for too long and still regret it to this day. I'll never regret letting an animal go a day too soon rather than a day too late.

So sorry to hear this, but I think you are doing the right thing. If he has been down twice in the field and has difficulty getting up then that shows that he is losing strength and co-ordination. When they cannot get up and down easily it must be very stressful for a prey species as they would feel so vulnerable.
It is nice that he has been able to spend a few comfortable days in the barn, warm and dry and surrounded by his friends and companions.

Very very brave and selfless decision - it usually hurts us far more than it hurts them. I hope it all goes well and smoothly, and you can hold on to the memories.

.....Oh Beth, my heart goes out to you. This is by far, THE most difficult decision any horse owner has to make as we travel along the journey of life with our beloved equines. Letting them go when it's time is heartbraking, i know as i've been there (as have many others on this board).
My love to you and Tom...

Thankyou all for your kind words you have helped me greatly through this very difficult time. Just waiting for vet to decide a date, but in the mean time I am spending as much time with tom as I can. He is warm and comfortable at the moment with his companion. xxx I would be feeling much worse without all of your kind words. Thankyou xxx
