I am sorry I cannot offer any suggestions but the constant spinning must be exhausting him and watching him must be so stressful for you. Has the vet been back to see him? Love to you both x

I only knew of one case similar, but not the same, where the horse had (apparently) suffered a stroke. Sorry I can't help either, but sending big hugs to you & Tom, whatever happens. x

Yes I've. Had this with my mare years ago the out come was not good :/ long story short vet made lots of errors and kept her alive for way too long , it ended up being poll damage causing nerve damage , hope your case is better than mine x

Oh that doesn't sound good Beth...hope he's improving. I had a horse with similar symptoms, although they didn't get to that stage....he had compression of his spinal cord due to arthritis and was pts,the only other horse I know with those symptoms was elderly, vet there suspected a stroke and after a few weeks of treatments she was pts as well Really hope today has been a better day for you both xx

Thankyou all for your help. Went to see him this morning, abit of improvement, but he looks exaughsted. I do think that it could be a stroke, so I am going to get the vet back down today. I cant have this horse have a long and painful death. Lets just hope things work out for the best. Thankyou so much for all of your support everyone. You have helped me very much. I will keep you posted throughout the day. xxx

The spinning sounds rather like the horse I had to deal with last year who reared constantly to try and get the weight off a broken shoulder...
Surely he should be being x rayed and taken to an equine hops rather than being left to spin around in a wet field??

he isn't in a wet field, he is in the barn with his companion. Vet didnt want to go down the x-ray route as it wouldn't affect treatment, which I do agree with. He is brighter this morning and isnt spinning - however he tried to approach his food bowl and instead of moving forward he went around in a circle again. It is looking more neurological, I think. He has gone down at some point in the night as his stable rug had markings on it, thankfully he got up. I don't think he is in pain particularly now, he wolfed his food down - he just is staggering and has no co-ordination. Will continue with pain relief overnight, as he has improved, and re-assess tomorrow and call the vet back xx

PS I wouldn't put him through going to hospital, he gets very stressed when away from his companion and also in different surroundings, that is not an option.

He is ok - but when he goes to move forward he turns around, I don't feel he is distressed but he looks tired Yesterday we were all crying and so devastated, really thought the vet would come straight out and put him down. When the vet didn't I was uneasy and upset thinking I was prolonging his suffering - but seeing him now - in the barn with his companion, the sheep and geese in there, lots of hay and out of the weather, I'm glad that he had a chance to get comfortable now. Maybe that's just me feeling better, but I do think he is not distressed anymore. However I am going to call the vet tomorrow and tell him I instinctively think this isn't going to end with him getting better xxxxxxxx

All the best Beth... sounds like a professional second opinion and a quick decision is needed. 32, you've clearly taken great care of him.

While it's sad for his life to end, you've done your best to keep him alive and well, I'm sure you'll do your best for him now. He 's a very lucky horse to reach 32.
