Thank you all so much for all your kind words, it means so much to me! I've never experienced pain like this, I still think that she's in the field and I have to bring her in, I still go to do three feeds everyday, I just can't believe she's gone On Sunday we had the best hack ever, we were out for three hours, we went cantering through woodland and we were bitless!! I'm just so glad our last ride together was the best ride i've ever had with her! My baby cobalob, Sam is really keeping me going, and I'm going to do the best job I can with him!! Be prepared for many photo overloads!

Every animal/person comes into our life to teach us lessons and when they have done this they must go. I am so sorry that you have lost a teacher & also a much loved family pet. Her presence will be sorley missed but everything she taught you will live on in future horses you have.

So sorry to hear this Cara. RIP Jewel xxx
I too know what you're going through as I lost my horse of a lifetime to acorn poisoning five years ago. His field had one oak tree and it was fenced off but my vet said he must have been extremely sensitive and it was actually oak leaves and a possible few acorns that had poisoned him.
Sending you lots of hugs
Em x

This post has made me cry! I'm so sad to hear what's happend to your gorgeous mare. My old pony used to be in a field with about 5 oak trees in it and I never worried all that much about clearing up the acorns - kind of assumed he'd know not to eat too many. Thankfully he was ok - but because of my experience with him, I'd have probably been equally as complacent with my two if they were in a field with oak trees.
A lady I know has been fastideously clearing acorns from her horse's field - stabling him for long periods as she'd not got enough of them up - & I thought she was being OTT. How wrong I was.
Thanks to your warning, I'd never be that complacent again.
I hope you get lots of pleasure from your other horse/s - & you can remember that lovely ride you had on your mare.
Take care

Be prepared to go through the whole range of emotions, like we did. We just couldn't believe she was gone, would never hear her shout at us, or see her belting down from the top of the field to greet us, we felt so empty and hollow. I then got angry, how could she have been taken from us, it wasn't fair etc. and then extreme sadness. It does get better, but it does take time. When they go they take a part of us with them, but they leave us with so much. Mary was my teacher, my friend and my companion, and my life was made richer by her. I wouldn't change that for a second, even with the pain we still feel. With love Ros xxx
