I'm gutted.
We have been having increasing problems with him kicking up at my leg, refusing to go forwards etc, so much so that I have had him on a maintenance dose of Gastrogard for a few weeks now,
LizP came to visit us today, and she saw a much more chilled and relaxed Snip....until I was on him.
Back to the old issues with him kicking up at my leg, stopping and bucking, small rears, napping. He making it very clear that something is wrong.
I guess I knew this was happening, but didn't want to believe it was happening again, I honestly don't know what else to try next...needed someone with fresh eyes to see what he was doing to confirm it for me....don't think he left either of us with any doubt today.
So, phonecall to the vet on Tuesday, see what he recommends - I know it will be full dose of Gastrogard for a month, but I am no longer covered by insurance for ulcers.
Gutted. It's been months since I've sat on an actual rear...think Liz thought i was a bit mental because the first thing I asked was if she'd got that bit on video!

So sorry to hear this Trouble You've worked so hard to sort Snip's problems out & you must be feeling really disheartened. Hope the vet comes up with a solution on Tuesday. Chin up.

That's really tough. Sorry that's happening to you and your horse again Trouble, but sounds likely doesn't it?

Do you want me to post the vids, Trouble? Someone else might have thoughts we've missed.

Yes please! Happy for anyone to see them - if there's the slightest chance that someone might come up with something new to try then I'm willing to take the critique! lol

I'm so sorry to hear that this looks like the reason for your recent troubles, I take my hat off to you that time and time again you have done so much for Snip, more than most would have I wish you all the best and hope for a positive outcome for you

Here you go, a few bits of vid. The first is longlining, just so that you can see his movement without rider in trot: The 2 ridden bits:

Oh! Those bucks/ rears are mini!!! They feel quite a lot bigger than that when you're sat on em!
He def does NOT look happy though, does he?! That is exactly how he behaved when he had ulcers before...I have a video clip somewhere, I'll dig it out to compare, but looks a lot like that.

Dunno, no one will get on him.
Last time someone did try, he threw them through the arena fence. That was last January just prior to the original ulcer diagnosis.

I'm not sure I'd get someone else to ride him. My feeling is that no one should be riding him until the vet has been called back in. He's not happy and it would be unfair to ask more of him that he feels he can cope with. I can see the logical diagnostically but I'm not sure it's the right thing from his point of view.

Totally agree.
The time that person did ride him was when I finally gave in to the 'you should get a decent rider on him, they'll show you how it's done' attitude at the old yard.
Needless to say the only thing I was shown was how to get thrown through a fence, and I'd already managed that successfully without the tuition.
With the snow, he's not done anything but long lining for over a week, apart from Christmas eve where i did get on him for 5 mins, and he was an angel, even let me put my leg on (though it was too slippery to ask for anything but shuffle so that may be the reason)

No the reason I ask was purely to see if he reacted differently to when you were riding him. i.e. the pain factor. I agree nobody should be riding him at the moment just wondered regarding the past.
