Oh dear - Beauty has just been banished from the main board to the obscurity of "IHDGers Personal Charities and Missions", along with the stories of Lakota and the orphan foal.
Seems a shame. I had hoped her story would inspire others to rescue and to give horses a chance and now it will hardly be read anymore.
I think Beauty deserved her place in the Hall of Fame. She would have ranked in the top few posts even there in terms of responses and views.
Beauty has touched people, yet she and all the other horses I am helping and will try to help in the future are being punished because I spoke out against the buck stopper. Deny me the opportunity to effectively share her story and that of any other horse in need - and it's those horses that you hurt.

She's looking wonderful Caroline, and so happy and relaxed. All credit to you.
I'm sure if you asked the Mods or Admin they could move this to The Hall Of Fame instead.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I wonder if we could have a Woody thread in the Hall of Fame section so you can keep us updated on how he's doing. Anyone else think that's a good idea? If so, I'll PM the mods. Link to Post - Back to Top Logged

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- All fundraising/charity/rescue work that goes on through here needs to be done through the Personal Charities section please. Anyone who is donating is doing so without the endorsement of IH, Kelly Marks or her employees. Those wishing to contribute should read the Forum Guidelines for information.
Sorry to have to put this up but after having fingers burnt before, we have to treat all "rescue missions" this way. Thats not us saying the same will happen in this case, just us trying to protect our members as much as possible. « Last Edit: Nov 2, 2009, 2:55pm by Admin » Link to Post - Back to Top Logged As you will see from the above quotes, the final locations for these three posts had been decided days ago, and how sad that you should regard his section as a place to be banished to, when so many other generous, kind hearted people already have threads on here.
I think it is great that Kelly allows us to all post on her board free of charge - it is a really good place to get support for all sorts of issues. Not to be taken for granted by any of us!
And as you can see, people are still reading it

Zoe...I quote you: "Mods, may I suggest that this thread is moved to the DG Hall of Fame (and Caroline's own threads about rescuing horses to the Personal Charities and Missions Section)) so as to avoid any more detraction from the wonderful chance that Woody has now been given?"
I consider that devisive, hostile and I do not see the kindness in it's intent. I interpret it as an unrelated lash out at me because I have spoken out against Monty's use of the buckstopper. Both threads were moved within minutes, even seconds, of your request. That is unlikely to be a coincidence. Yes - it is a banishment to obscurity. Reader stats are much lower here than on the main board. To deny that is utterly pointless and an insult to everyone's intelligence. Prior to my 3 posts, the last contribution to any thread on this board was 2 weeks ago or more. I don't think that is because people aren't interested in rescue. The overwhelming response Beauty has had has proven the opposite. People really do care and they are interested and supportive. It's just that this area of the DG is obscure and hard to find and hardly anyone comes here. You only came today to argue with me. The best place to get help and support is the main board. I don't think any rescue story - particularly one still underway and in need of help - should be banished here. I don't set myself any higher than any other rescuer, nor do I think the horses I am involved with are any more important than ones I am not. To imply that I do as you rather snidely did was insulting and, again, a hostile act. Of course, now we are arguing here, it will become a more popular board for a while. Perhaps you would like to have a spat with me here each week? I feel it could really raise the profile of rescue in the community. We could get some amazing work done as a result.

Thanks claire,
I took someone to see her today and she commented that Beauty is really developing a topline. I was so proud! She really is looking gorgeous. She has put on so much weight. She looks almost normal now. Her body is beginning to reflect her name in the way her spirit always did.
Anyone in the forest or visiting this way is welcome to come and see her and give her a cuddle. She is really good with people and likes to receive guests!

I am one of the lucky peole to meet Beauty and she is as her name states... A beauty - A lady.. She has a natural calm aura and has emense serenity about her. Caroline has done a wonder ful job of allowing her to chill and bloom in her own time. She has the softest coat, like silk
She has filled out so very much from the first pics and is looking like a well conditioned horse that is clearly loved as is Zee and Tiger - The dancer... fabulous...!!
I have been lurking hoping to see the pics Carolne.... ;D...
Hope that you are all well and will be over to see you again soon..
Take care and hugs to you all..
Claire

She is wearing your rug tonight Claire! Thank you so much for that. It's been a complete godsend with the weather as it is. It's meant I can have one thick rug drying off (in the kitchen!) whilst the other is on her, so I never have to worry about putting a damp rug on her. Sorry I haven't put the photos of you and her on the blog yet. Will get that done! TigerLily wants to know when you are coming back for a Tango

Caroline I have just read your last entry on beautys blog, and just thought, to make your and Beautys life easier (and probably your kitchen more pleasant) if you have a decent well filled turnout rug there would be no need to change it - she can sleep in it as well as have it on in the day. Her body heat will dry it quicker than any kitchen and you won't have that battle in the wind, except when you take it off briefly to admire the horse you have (re)created! Good luck, I am really looking forward to seeing the pics.

Hi Jill - thanks for that. I had wondered about that. I worried about her over-heating during the day though and not feeling the benefit of a thicker rug at night. Am I being silly and soft? I do tend to want to wrap her in cotton wool, which is daft really because my other two live out 24/7 unrugged and don't seem to even notice the weather.
If her night rug gets wet and it is sunny during the day, I put the rug out to dry on my garden fence. I often think that it would dry faster on her than in my house.
I am freaking out tonight because I got back late from a chicken rescue operation and she wouldn't come over to have her night rug on. I'm feeling really ill (got a cold) and am seriously exhausted so there was a limit to how long I could stand in the rain and dark calling her. I had to just put her feed and hay down and abandon the mission in the end. So she is out there in the rain in her lightweight day rug. It's waterproof, but not as warm as the night one. Do you think she will be OK? Do horses catch colds if they aren't warm enough one night? Normally I would get out there, weather or not, and see it through til I got the rug on her...but I think I'll finish myself off if I do and boyfriend already thinks I was insane to go chicken rescuing today!

We are doing pretty well with the windy rug changes now. She really is very good considering she's a thoroughbred with a dodgy past and hardly knows me yet. I'm sure it could be a lot worse. She has only danced away from me once mid-change and I am getting better at getting the rug on and cinched without too much flapping. I have found the secret is to bunch it up over her back, do up the front, then smooth it back over her backend, keeping my arm over her rump. That way, the wind can't get a lot of purchase and Beauty gets the message I am in control of the flappy thing....lol!
