Forget the above - I'd missed out half the pages of the thread. That's what you get for going on the IHDG late at night!
Congrats on your pregnancy!

I DID mention the PHW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mahoosive apologies, but I did say that I thought they were called Energetics and "PHW" didn't mean anything to me. I HAD read all the posts, but just missed your sentence.... sorreeeee. Anyway, I'm glad they helped for you too

wraps were mentioned to me, can't remember why we didn't go with them
I do feel a bit like a failure and a fraud at the moment, but I do hope I'm doing the best by Rio for now *short term*

My mare loved her wraps but ultimately they're pretty expensive (and I got a really good deal and was only charged cost of the wraps, not for the trimmers time or experience) and they aren't necessarily going to help in the long term. I'd use them again, and may well have to do so when my mares shoes come off in the autumn, but if finances are an issue they may not be an option for the OP.
I have to say that anyone with a horse that has problem feet is going to find that taking the shoes off and rehabbing the hooves is going to be far more expensive than bog standard shoeing will ever be. Rehabbing my mares hooves to a half reasonable state cost me an absolute fortune (went through about 6 sets of boots, 3 lots of PHW, supplements, pads, etc, etc) and we've still ended up shoeing (admittedlly to a much better foot) as I can't control her diet well enough all year round to keep her comfortable on her feet 100% of the time. That's with part time stabling and permanent muzzling when on grass from March-Nov ish.

Amanda that is soo true.. unshod isnt always a cheap option..it was another reason I asked gixer why she was going barefoot. Some think it is cheaper to not shoe and they will save loads..
I dread to think what I have spent over the years.. and it is now into 5 years.
BUT I think we so forget the most basic thing of horse ownership. That saying we all know and love
No Foot No Horse
If we have no foot we have no horse and the foot is so often given short change in costings.. and so little knowledge buy owners.. and that isnt owners faults so much as we rely on so called experts.. and they let us down.. Yes I do blame many farriers because we trust them with the most precious part of out horse. Remember I was one of them.
We go to the trouble to get saddle fit right and the best bit and and take feet for granted..
How often do many of us not even attend our farrier visits, leave cheque in envelope and speak on the phone possibly for next appointment. I was one of them.. and one of them that trusted the expert.
Horse ownership is costly and feet cant be shortchanged.. get them right and invest in them and we will solve many issues..
Gixer needs time now to sort out her life with baby on the way.. and when she can get back to this.. she will be more knowledgeable.. and better equipt'd to deal with it.
In the meantime gixer I suggest get a book by KC and learn what the foot involves and why we give the advice we do. Learn what makes a healthy foot.. and when you are in a better position you will have more information to help you. Use the time in another way..
Also try to get Adi back... she is to good to lose.

Horse ownership is costly and feet cant be shortchanged.. get them right and invest in them and we will solve many issues.. I'm really begining to think feet really are perhaps the most important indicator of how we are doing with feed and management and I also think they are often the last place we look when things go wrong and imo they should be one of the first. Good luck gixer and don't feel too bad it must be so confusing all of us 'advising' you. As Susan says the best thing is to educate yourself about feet and then you will feel a bit more confident making these decisions. Right I'm getting down off my lame/tired high horse and shutting up for a while! *how long will that last??*

Me!! Just a thought gixer but is that nearside fore a club foot? It's just if it is or even the shape may indicate a problem somewhere else in Rio's body... I think it can sometimes indicate a problem in the opposite side... hip, shoulder etc. I don't mean to make more problems but it may be worth checking what the Farrier/Trimmer think initially. I'd better add that I've never seen a club foot in the flesh so may well be totally off track! I can't work out how to get the next pics of all 4 feet up together in sequence. Is there a way or do I have to look at each individually?
