Rather than banging on about horses for courses etc., or complaining as we often do about our beloved nags.. Why is this horse right for you... Flynn, my five year old ISH is right for me (even in this downhill shot!) because he is teaching me to lead. He needs me to be in charge and that gives me confidence to ride well. I simply can't indulge runaway emotions. I can't ride a horse with a lot of attitude. Opinions yes, intelligence yes, but not questions every ride. Not interested. I like his submissive side but look forward to him growing in confidence with me. He's brilliant in traffic, stops and thinks even if he's terrified and a gent on the ground. He has lovely paces for hacking and a trot that begs to be sat into to. He has the bone to manage my hilly land and is low maintenance. He was expensive for a rather ordinary horse as he jumps like a stag. Still, he spoke to me as 100% genuine and safe, which he most certainly is, giving 110% of himself at all times. He was clearly well started which really matters. Oh, and to add. I think he's gorgeous.

Brilliant thread K.
well having three......
Max is right for me because despite his quirks, he instills such confidence in me. he has got me hacking out alone and in company, jumping alone and in company, i go to shows and do dressage, now confident enough to embark on a new career of western riding.
No matter what naughties he gets up to, like spinning round this morning for absolutely no reason whatsoever, like doing his riverdance when entertaining his street audience, like doing his little half rears within the riverdance for variation on a theme, nothing, and i repeat, NOTHING he does scares me. I KNOW that whatever he does (one of my favourites is a big SQUEAL prequel to a non buck) he isn't going to get me on the floor and kill me.
He has just the right amount of give without being overbearing, he is a big boy, measuring in at 17.2 ish so could easily use his height to intimidate, but is a perfect gentleman in the stable. he's not in your face and demanding attention all the time. and best of all, it doesnt matter what the weather, whether he has been in for a couple of days or anything, he's always the same to ride.
the stallies are big softies who will leave their food for fuss. perfect gentlemen to do and drive and they give me the confidence to take them driving anywhere because i know they will look after themselves, and consequently, me!
Having had a horse which those of old know about who was beautiful and all that, lovely horse, but we just didnt see eye to eye and although it was a love match, it was a wrong match. it was an accident waiting to happen. I sold him and the lady who has him loves him to bits and is doing very well with him from my last correspondence with her.

Archie is perfect for me. Although we still have our hacking out to conquer - he is still pefrect in that he is an absolute gentleman to handle, catch, tack up and ride. He is solid and dependable, he will look and decide himself that something isnt scary, but he has character and I love that! ;D
I can park him pretty well anywhere and ask him to stand, I can leave his stable door open and he wont come out unless I say ok - he is so dependable I very rarely tie him up.
He has manners, in and out the field - recently the other horses decided to have a rodeo session in the field as I was walking through with him - it was pretty scary - but he stood like a rock and was clearly worried - but I asked him to stand and he did. When they cleared off we carried on quietly.
He is so willing, he tries hard to please, and I cannot imagine life without him.

Tilly is perfect for me because she is 100% safe, yet still keeps me on my toes. We have a deep deep bond with each other, but she never ever lets me get away with sloppy riding. She has a soul deeper and greater than my own.
Thomas is perfect for me because he came to teach me the things I need to learn.
I love them both unconditionally. ;D

At the age of 42 he was my first pony. He looks after me on every ride. He is so forgiving as I know I'm not the most perfect rider. He puts up with my constant kisses , I trust him to bits.

My old stallion Ben has a huge heart and a gentle, giving nature...... he is 22 this year .... love him to bits My wee rascal of a shetland, Noddy, is comical and cheeky but has a wonderful way of befriending everyone and everything, Bless him My new boy, a 10 yr old 17,2hh tb was rescued last year .... he was a skeleton covered in sores and rainscald. He is settling in with me and putting weight on and seems to really appreciate kindness.

My TB, Concer, is right for me because.....like Stybba's Thomas 'he came to teach me the things I need to learn'. I'm still a work in progress! ;D He is extremely sensitive, quick with the flight instinct of a mustang, honest, loves head hugs, has a memory like an elephant for 'bad things' and I don't know what I'll do when I lose him (he's 19 this year). My little French chap (PBA) is right for me because.....he's 'just a horse' without all the ex-racer baggage. He taught me that being around horses can be uncomplicated and fun and got me back in the saddle.

Thomas is perfect for me because he came to teach me the things I need to learn. What a lovely phrase, I am going to steal it! I love Gazdag, he is perfect to handle in the stable & field (mostly) so I can enjoy my time with him and just chill out and groom if I want to. He is turning into a real cuddle monster and loves fuss. However, he can be somewhat of a challenge to exercise, he asks LOTS of questions and explores lots of different behaviours to find out what happens if... and am I allowed to do.... He is very clever and very quick to learn, he can throw his teddies out a bit when learning something new, but often he will think about it over the following few days and decide that he knows all about it next time. When he's in a good mood, he's an absolute delight and very rewarding. When he's in a silly mood, well, I just hold tight and enjoy the display of acrobatics! He's the perfect horse for me to learn and develop with

I've got a few so I'll do a gushing summary! ;D They have all taught me so much and really made me stop think and learn. They are a wonder, a comfort, a mystery, a challange, truthful and accepting. Imo they have made me a better person and I love them all.

Great. I think this is a nice IH dose of a thread, as we are all open to be taught by what the horse brings to us. I rejected my horse last summer for not adding up to what I had expected, but when we was away, the guy riding him gave me a long look and said 'WHY are you selling this horse? If you think you'll find another as genuine within a year of looking, you're dreaming.'

Bali is perfect for me because when I was really nervous she took no notice of me and looked out for both of us. Now that I am becoming a little more confident she is starting to listen to me, and maybe even trust my judgement a bit too. I have never ridden a less spooky horse - she has the confidence to have a look at new things, and then walks on calmly.
But, she certainly isn't the easiest horse to manage on the ground, so again she's perfect because I am having to learn a whole new set of skills in order to communicate with her.
I am now beginning to enjoy riding again, and it's all thanks to Bali.

I love being with Solo, in this past year we have come along way together. Where I lack confidence he is full of it, but he also has his confidence wobbles and will look to me to lead the way. I'm looking forward to this year as we strengthen our bond even further and learn soooo much more. And I can now do this- I'm also learning how to get things right from the start with Gremlin. He is a more thinking pony, so I'm having to learn a whole new set of skills with him. He is such a sweetie

do you know I have absolutely no idea why my horse is right for me,
she pushes me to my limits, I'm in debt up to my eyeballs, can't buy a single thing for myself and have to get up at the crack of dawn to slog through mud to do what needs doing
and I can't even ride her because of loads of reasons, most boiling down to money
but I wouldnt' part with her for the world, she is my heart and my soul. but I couldn't tell you why

Zephie is the perfect childrens pony. They could run under her belly and she wouldn't turn a hair. She and Chloe have a wonderful bond and Zephie has proved herself to be honest and trustworthy time and time again. She's brought Chloe, who used to be painfully shy and lacking in self confidence, completely out of herself and helped Chloe believe in herself. (Oh blimey...had a little sniffle there!). She also loves cuddles and fuss and when I'm stressed out with other things in my life, my real stress-buster is to spend half an hour grooming and cuddling our lovely little Zephie. Impy is DEFINATELY perfect for me. Although initially shy, his trust in me has grown and he has proved to be a wonderful little character. He tries so hard to please and is exceptionally affectionate and positively demands cuddles and fuss. He is extremely laid back about life and just an absolute pleasure to have around. He is an adorable little fluffball and I can't help but smile when I see him. He is brave & bold and I have absolute faith in the fact that he will be best hacking pony/all rounder in England!!
