On 1st June my trusty hound, Patch, and I are backpacking from John O'Groats to Lands End. We will walk over 1200 miles in around 3 months without support - I will be carrying my own tent and supplies and will be unaccompanied. I am very aware that this will be no walk in the park... with no-where secure to leave Patch even basic activities like showering and food shopping will not be easy - comfortable B&B's / Hotels and pub grub will be out of the question! And we all know I'm going to get lost!! It's a long walk for me - but it's an even longer walk for my Jack Russell "Patch"! Between now and June we will be in training to build up our strength and fitness - and to condition Patch's feet so they don't get sore. Before we leave Patch will have a health check at the vets - her well being will be my priority throughout. To sponsor us please visit; www.justgiving.com/longestdogwalkinbritainOr to follow our blog please visit; longestdogwalkinbritain.blogspot.comI appreciate all the support you can give for this challenge. Dog's Trust need the funds and I need the support! Please note that all funds go directly to Dog's Trust - I am funding the cost of equipment / campsites etc. (I realise this isn't a horsey charity, but I believe that in today's throw away society all animals need all the help they can get. I do plan to complete a similar route in 2011 on one of my Exmoor ponies - once I finally start riding them!)

Good for you! The Dogs' Trust has been amazing in providing funds for hundreds of rescues to neuter their dogs for several years.
Sophie, if you need to break for a night on route, you're more than welcome to sleep in a proper bed, take a shower or a soak in a bath and have a proper meal. That is one almighty task you have set yourself and Patch.

Sophie, I am in East Lothian, just to the east of Edinburgh. My parents are in Dundee. If you can stop with us for a night, with Patch. Good luck! Kirsten

Good luck with it hun, we`re probably too far out of the way but if you come Lincolnshire way on then there is a bed at ours for you (and Patch) ..... I`m wondering if a few of the IHDG`ers could pull together and give you a bed/settee for most of the stops you paln to make, do you have an itinerary ? ;D
