I have a friend who has a 16.1hh teenage gelding. She has got really into her dog agility and found she didn't have time for him any more. Unfortunately he got kicked and ended up with a fractured Ulna. He has been box rested, x rayed etc and eventually been given the go ahead to be riden again albeit obviously building up slowly. She has advertised him on project horses (he is called Earl) but only had one weird reply. She is terribly fond of him and he sounds a lovely boy and I would be sorely tempted myself except i need to sort my childrens ponies and feel happy with them before taking on something for me. Does anyone know somebody who is looking and can obviously offer the time and patience to have a lovely happy hacker? He is in Surrey and I think ideally to stay within the neighbouring counties? Or does anyone have an ideas of what she could do? She has tried advertising in local tack shops etc for a loan or possible share? Thanks Dione

Where in Surrey? I live in Guildford and a girl I work with is looking to loan/share. Not sure what she's looking for, but if it's not too far away I can ask the question.

Hi there Basingstoke - sorry its Hampshire!! But not far from Guildford. The ad for Earl is on project horse under the 16.1hh - 17hh section with a super photo.
Another old friend contacted me lat week about someone looking for a sharer for her mare. She is kept in Compton, between guildford and godalming. If Earl is too far then pm me for the details of the mare

His ad on PH says Basingstoke, Hampshire? He sounds (and looks!) lovely, but perhaps ask her to have the ad changed a little to give more info on the damage done/prospects? As in has the vet said that once back into work he would more than likely be sound? Would she be willing to pay towards on going vet bills? Would it be for a permanent loan or shorter term? I just think that people tend to read ads looking for what's missing, with an ad like that my first thoughts are: 1- Is she going to want him back once he has been bought back into work? 2- Will she be willing to contribute towards vets bills/physio (to do with his injury). 3- What are his long term prospects? How much work as a happy hacker can he do (as in just walking and trotting or is he allowed to do more once fit?) 4- Does she mind him moving away, or would she rather he stayed close by? 5- Can he live out or does he need to be stabled part the day? I hope she finds someone for him, I would have thought he would be much easier to home if she put her dog agility on hold for a while until he is back into work, or maybe get someone in to just ride him for her? ETA- Sorry I cross posted with you Dione!

I have found Stable Talk very good for finding loaners, there seem to be a fair number of people who look on there. It's free to advertise, but be specific about what he is/does, how long the loan would be for and what area - it is so annoying to respond and find it is miles away. But homecheck frequently, at least twice a year and get a proper loan agreement in place.
