Back in July my horse slipped her achilles tendon. I was advised to keep her on box rest for 6 months and told that she would always be mechanically lame and at best would be a light hack. She was on box rest at night with a very small turn out area during the day and coping well until 3 months down the line when she jumped a 5-bar gate to get out!! Now she is out with the others at night and comes in during the day. The swelling around the hock has gone down over the months and now 5 months later it doesn't seem to have altered for the last couple of months. Its looking OK but has a huge ball-like swelling on the inside of the hock although I was told that the tendon has slipped to the outside. Does anyone have any experience of this sort of injury - am looking for a light at the end of the tunnel as my gut feeling is that its not going to get any better and I will never be able to ride her again or is it still early days? Was planning to wait until March and get it re-scanned?
