At the moment the only supplement I feed Ky is seaweed, but have been thinking about including garlic. This got me thinking about all the other supplements available and then I had a melt down! There are so many. What supplements do you feed and why? Thanks,

You might want to have a look at this before deciding whether or not you should add garlic to your horse's diet www.equisearch.com/horses_care/feeding/feed/eqgarlic528/Garlic has quite strong antibacterial effects and horses rely on the bacteria in their hind gut to break down fibre. Garlic can have quite negative effects on the gut and cause scouring in the worst cases.

After doing a search on here about garlic - I have decided that I will definately not be feeding Ky garlic!
But still interested in what supplements other folks use.

We feed Top Spec Balancer and don't add any supplements except a tablespoon of salt. Horse feed doesn't have salt in it as it causes the feed to absorb moisture through the bag so you should add salt and not rely on the horse self dosing from a salt lick.
Top Spec already has the recommended amount of biotin in it but I'd probably supplement with that if I used a different feed.

it's to do with starch intolerance causing them to tie up/be stiff/sore etc., very complex but oil is thought to help. I feed pink powder because they don't get feed - just fibre fibre and more fibre when zac gets hard feed he will get ERS pellets but not the recommended amount so i use pink powder to top up the vits and mins.

Glucusomine and MSM by Equine America (the people who make Cortaflex) - He doesn't have brilliant joints and it's a hell of a lot cheaper than Cortaflex for the same effect!
