OK, first day of Christmas school holidays. Turn up at the yard, both got out of car & within 5 mins had managed to get very muddy! Charlie wanted to ride Peppermint to the field & got his muddy boots over the sides of Peppermints rug They then both mucked out & got the cardboard chips stuck to their muddy boots, so cardboard chips scattered all over the yard (just where I had swept!) They changed out of wellies into Joddy boots to ride & managed to get them very muddly too, getting mud over Peppermints saddle. I left them in charge of feeds, both ponies will be happy today, they have much more feed than I normally give them (good job its only Hifi Lite!. Oh and they cant fill up water buckets without getting themselves soaking wet somehow They both played ponies & sat astride Peppermints stable door, pretending to gallop their "pony", trouble is, Peppermints rug was over the door, so yet another rug with muddy boot stains on! On leaving the yard, they managed to get mud & cardboard chips over the inside of the car. Both kids had mud on their hat covers, coats & jumpers. I have spent the evening washing! Peppermint, however, has managed to keep quite clean today If anyone wants any little helpers over the Christmas hols, please help yourself

Any space for two more? Though I would have to warn you that they would eat you out of olives, garlic bread and tapas! (they always get away with it over there as the Spanish can never seem to resist a 4 year old and a 2 year old who can hold conversations with them and order their own food in Spanish!). I'll fox them one day and take them to a different country - they'll starve!

Made worse by the fact my OH has OCD..dirty car is a no no, and his stable you could eat your dinner off..so could you fit him in too??? got to be worth a try..He can reach where the kids cant!!

Sorry, but my reaction to that was: GREAT! Sounds like the kids had a BLAST! ;D
I think the main reason my girls (3yrs and 6yrs) come up to the yard if for the mud and puddles! My youngest loves standing against the yard gate 'picking out' her wellies with the hoof pick - usually with mud over hands and coat!
They play horseys with the headcollars and lead ropes and 'fishing' with my lunge whip!!!! ;D
I'd never worry about mud on a rug - Rummi does that perfectly well on his own.
Ponies, kids, mud and water? Sounds a recipe for a great time to me!!! ;D ;D ;D

Sounds like the kids had a BLAST! ;D They did have a great time, I did keep thinking of what most of their school friends would probably be up to, either being dragged round the shops getting last minuite shopping, being plonked in front of the TV or playing endless video games, at least mine were in the fresh air , the trouble is all the "kit" is now clean, i'll have to clean it all over again tomorrow!

Ah they sound like they had a great time! I totally agree that most of their pals will be shoved in front of the telly or playstation - I was always at the stables during school holidays mucking out for hours. One X-Mas my friend and I had about 20 stables to muck out every day (the owner must have loved the holdiays with us there!) and we never moaned once, apart from at home time! I still can't watch the telly during the day without feeling like it is a major waste of time!

sounds perfect.. for kids.. and arnt rugs made to get muddy... and kiddies around ponies this time of yeard you cant not get muddy.. Hey why not get those all in one suits and then their wellies and then after yard you take off suit and clean children underneath.. Washing machines are made for washing too! I would rather see the children taking part in the pony life then some I have seen over the years sitting ion the car or playing elsewhere or not even coming to the yard and nowhere to be seen near the pony and Mum doing it all.. I also love the fact they are young for such a short time.. they will soon grow up and no longer be your babies.. and then be grown ups themselves.. honest enjoy these times.. and simply put up as it is winter.. and keep washing! and enjoy them
from one mum whose daughter is now 26! and where did those years go

Yep, mines 10 and still enjoys the mud and puddles and muck heap far better than anything else, the snow and ice is just superb althou she doesn't listen about wearing gloves and so has rather chapped hands sometimes *sigh*
She has countless coats, overtrousers and muck boots but still the mud creeps into everything, my car looks like an extra for Emmerdale all the time so i've given up trying to keep it even remotely clean and just wear overalls myself to drive to work - LOL
