hi everyone i have an itch crazy elderly lady! i cannot find any evidence of lice in her (very woolley) coat but she is itch mad. there is now a patch on her neck which has been rubbed bald with a couple of scabs so today i cut away all the hair around it and washed it with hibiscrub. i have doused her with louse powder four times but this hasn't helped. she lives on her own. i have removed her rug (which she only wore on very cold nights and its been fairly mild recently anyway) and she's not groomed as she's not ridden over the winter and i want to keep her coat nice and greasy for the weather. any ideas? my next step would be to wash her in a medicated shampoo but obviously this isn't ideal as it would take her til may to dry out. help??!! xx

Could be too much grease my old lad had some itchy bald patches all up his side, I gave his a bath with washing up liquid (I know that the best thing- but only thing I had at the time) and he hasn't itches since. I have been leaving his unrugged as much as poss since and giving his a good brush every couple of days and touch wood it seems to be working.

Have you changed her diet at all?, perhaps its allergy related?. A horse at our yard was itching like mad recently, I asked her owner if she'd changed feed/suppliments at all, she'd started using seaweed, now she's off the seaweed & stopped itching
