Has anyone tried towing with either a Kia Sorrento or a Hyundai Terracan? Just thinking about possibly getting a tow car again next year, as a second car, and wondered what these two were like? I'd love a Landcruiser but think the price may be a little high on them, or another Trooper but trying to find the 3.1TD Citation is very difficult. Towing weight of the Kia and the Hyundai is 2800 kg on each so plenty for my size of horses.

We are currently on our second Sorrento and both love it, we tow an Equi Trek with it and it tows brilliantly. It has won Which Car's tow car of the year and think it is the Caravan Club's tow car of the year this year.

I had the choice between these 2 also and went for the Sorento and love it! Personally I prefer the look of the kia which is why I went for it over the Hyundai but I have an Ifor 511 which it tows with one or 2 horses with ease. Fab car! mines a 2003 XS diesel.
I believe Sorentos have won tow car of the year (caravans) for about last 3 or more years.

Loza, I think you are right about tow car of the year, I couldn't remember how many years it was! I too love my Sorrento, we have the 2008 XT diesel, had the XS first, my only problem is parking in Waitrose car park - I have to find a super big space!!

The answer to that seems to be what I've seen a few drivers of 4x4s doign - take up 4 spaces (and the men do it as much as the women)!.
The Sorrento was recommended in the Telegraph which is what prompted me to ask - sounds a good bet.

Hi Gixer, I'm not sure what they do to the gallon, daren't find out!! Mine is my everyday car and obviously it is more juicy than a smaller car. My husband drives to Surrey and back most weekends in it, which is about 160 mile round trip and it is so comfortable and safe feeling. I will ask oh what he thinks it does to the gallon, but apart from the fuel it is def the nicest car I have ever had. Right, oh reckons we get about 25miles to the gallon.

I would think it's going to be around the same as most biggish 4x4s, 25 - 28 mpg and more on a long run. That's why I am thinking second car

Actually according to Parkers it should do 33 mpg so not too bad. Probably as much as the Subaru I'm hoping to get, although of course petrol is cheaper to buy than diesel so the cost of running Scooby will be less. Unless you buy the V6 which looks a little on the thirsty side

I have no idea about MPG and stuff but I know it takes about £100 to fill the tank (80 litres?) and does about 400 miles on that (i think). Diesel is apparently much better than petrol.
Have to admit I do take up 2 spaces on occassions but try not to generally. What drives me even more mad tho is people in tiny cars taking up 2 spaces!
Sue - I want an XT next time round.

Loza, I love the XT, I think the interior is much smarter then the XS, I don't like the tortoiseshell look in the XS, girlie question, what colour is yours?

I hope it's only costing you £80 to fill the tank now, Loza? Diesel is affordable now 80 litres sounds about right for a car that size. I want a 4x4 with all the bells and whistles - may as well

I've just sent you a PM, but have a look @ the 3.0 Trooper. I bought mine in October and I love it. It's brilliant for towing, and has been very reliable so far.
It's returning about 28 mpg which is pretty good for a large (LWB!) vehicle.

Troopers are top of my list, as long as they've been well maintained. Actually, the dealer who I'm hoping to get the Subaru off is also an Isuzu dealer so I will see what they've got there. I've only just remembered that

How about a low mileage import? I was offered a Trooper from Japan, 6 or 7 years old with only about 5,000 miles on the clock - apparently lots of families use them as very occasional use second cars, so they have a fraction of the "normal" mileage. I have lost the contact with the garage that found it, but I'm sure there will be companies on t'internet.
