our boy had a blanket clip last year and around parts of the edges of his saddlecloth he was rubbed a little, not sore just loosing hair. This year he has had a hunter clip and there is the beginning of some rubbing. He has no problem during the summer and his saddles were refitted just last week. All saddlecloths were new earlier this year.

Is he fully hunter clipped (ie without a saddle patch) or has he got some fur left under where the saddle lies ?
My mare had a hunter clip one year (without a saddle patch) and the saddle rubbed her back ! SO I always leave some fur on for the saddle now ! It hasn't happened again since !

Have you tried a nuumed wool backed saddle cloth? That fixed the problem for me.

Hi, Happy New Year,
Change the saddle pad in winter , some pads change in getting cold or warm as their material and because they are most are not natural, (we make sheep wool natural material for saddle pads and are hand made , we can use some parts with leather for padding specially and the girth area. If you have another one use double pads when saddling. If I were you I would give it a rest and treat it with some washing with a damp cloth with salty water let it be for some time then clean it well then put some cream on.
Wish you the best, PH.
