Hello everyone I am now the proud owner of a 18mnth old Shetland Colt, he came home yesterday This is my 1st pony for about 23 years so its all feels quite new again and boy have things advanced since my days of horse ownership. I always had horses as a child as I had the time and the facilities. Its not till now some 23 years later thatI now have the facilities and time again to dedicate to a horse. I decided to get a Shetland as my family are from shetland and bred them many years ago, so they are in my blood so to speak, also I had a dreadful fall from a polo pony which left me with a broken pelvis so I really have lost the nerve to ride again. Im so looking forward to bringing on my new baby and learning everything again basically from like minded people. I have many other animals of which include 5 dogs Thanks for having me here and look forward to speaking to you all Carol ;D

Hi there pgd. Love Shetland, especially Unst, love Shetland ponies too. Living Orkney myself.
Your wee man looks lovely. I'm guessing, but any Wells breeding there ?
Good luck with him, I am sure he will give you lots of fun.

Im not 100% on his exact breeding, but will be able to tell you when his passport arrives, I did have a look at it, but tbh the only name in shetlands that I know at the moment is the Transy Ponies But im doing lots of reading ;D Im also attending a few shows down here in Perthshire just to gain more knowedge ;D Nice to speak to you

He has already been shown and done really well My intentions are not to show him May have to reconsider Im having him gelded as I dont want a stallion. Whats your thoughts A stallion is not an option for me im afraid. Im not up on showing although my friend shows many

Would geld every time if you've no work for him. Rather a happy gelding than a miserable entire, and Shetlands are the original escape artists..... lol! No fun if like some he had to be stabled or kept alone.. Would love to see some more pictures of him if you have any. Is there someone else who could take him into the ring for you ? It would give you the pleasure of getting him ready, and the ringside fun ? A good gelding can do well, although have to say, they are not usually favoured over an entire, mare or filly when it comes to the crunch.

Oh I wondered whether you would be doing that. How exciting. Look for Wally - usually in GHT. She drives, is a wealth of information, and is based in Shetland lol!
Seeing his head puts me in mind of some of Ken Scotts ?
