BRECON HORSE FAIR 21ST SEPTEMBER 2008-09-21
A beautiful misty autumn morning developing into a bright and warm September day, such a shame to have to have witnessed such base maltreatment of dogs and other small animals at this fair today.
Today we did liaise with the RSPCA officer present; it was good to have that association and to see some action happening with one regular seller of pups/dogs and other small animals, all of which were in inadequate caging in direct sunlight and until advised, without any water.
We arrived by 1-30am to find a good few stalls already trading. Lots of puppies, lurchers, terriers, a Labrador adult female, she had clearly had puppies a few weeks earlier but there was no sign of those today. There were many rabbits, ferrets and lots of poultry on sale as well as mares with foals at foot and ponies and horses though not that many this time.
The prices for puppies gradually dropped as the day went by. We were offered tiny terrier puppies for £60 each “to a good home”…well it couldn’t have been a worse home given these poor souls were barely weaned. Lurchers that started the day at £50 each by the end were being traded to dealer who was under the watchful eye of the RSPCA officer for just £10 each…the home they have gone back to, judging by the condition of the dogs this man had on sale, will be pretty grim for sure.
We expect to see these puppies on sale again next Sunday at Usk fair and then again, with what are left at Stow in October….
We expect Usk fair to be huge with probably hundreds of puppies on sale as well as heaving with horses and ponies. No horses/ponies on the stolen lists were sighted today.
