I have never seen rain like this - its absolutely bouncing off the floor here. Its dark, dreary and wet. Fields are waterlogged and the neds broke into my haylege stash of large bales earlier and opened 3 - so there are now getting soaked out there. Why do they have to open 3? Can't they just share 1 stolen bale?!
Whats happened to the frosts of winter that allow me to fetch the neds out the field without dropping an acre of mud of their legs onto the yard?
I actually saw 4 of my horses all squished in my 10 x 18 field shelter yesterday - 1 16hh ID, 1 14.2 Arab, 1 15hh Appy, 1 x 13hh Sec B - with a 16.2hh mare outside. Just goes to show they must be sick of the rain!

its nasty isn't it? we had the rain come down yesterday. our new field waterlogged and muddy, had to move them to another bit. and they don't have a shelter! (we've just moved in) and only 1 of 3 has a rug! felt really nasty, wanted to bring them in the house!

bl**dy awful, for the second night running - and please don't let the lunatics out of the asylum with their ****ing fireworks tonight! - we've had to restrict the oldies to the hard stand yard with zillions of haynets....it's about as wet as it gets now. Let's hope the metcheck/met office forecast of a much drier week to come is right.... one good thing is the grass is shooting up too! emw x

Went up to do my neds tonight and it was absolutely hammering down. There were rivers flowing off down the hill from my stables. My two live out but I leave the stables open 24/7 if they want to come in. They never do in the winter but tonight was an exception and they hurtled inside for their tea. Tea over, they lingered at the entrance, qite reluctant to go out, so I put a couple of huge piles of hay in the stables for them. Rupert..arab..tucked in, but Echo...heavy coloured cob... continued to linger. And then he did something so deliberate and meaningful. He picked up a meagre wisp of hay that had blown outside and dipped in to a puddle and then ate it, all the while staring at me quite meaningfully. I grasped what he was telling me, he's a dunker. I filled another water bucket and poped it into the stable, and he shot inside and began to dunk his hay and eating it. What a clever boy, there was absolutely no mistake what he was trying to tell me.
Anyway back to the rain. I drove off down the hill through the village to join the main road. There was a HUGE lake of water at the junction. I waited for ages to be able to pull out. Lots of cars crept through the lake, and then this poor woman on a little moped came along. She was waterproofed from the waist up, but was wearing a skirt and tights and elegant shoes. She hit the lake at 30 mph, slowed down to 5mph, got even slower and then puttered to a halt, poor thing, up to her knees in water. She managed to hop off and push the bike through but I could see she was in for a long walk home with a waterlogged bike.

We moved ours back to the field with the shelter in last night and both horses dashed inside the shelter and eat every last strand of hay.
We have left them in that field - but it is nearer the fireworks if people set them off so they might get a nasty shock bless them!
