Hi, Just wanted to ask you knowledgeable folks
I have to claim on my insurance for vet fees done. This was for xrays and exploration into my gelding locking stifles.
Now I have never claimed on insurance before, so just wanted to ask if there is anything I shouldn't write!!
I am going to say he started going lame and sticking on his back legs so go the vet out to look at him.
Need them to pay me as just payed the vet £500 so has made a dent on the Barclay Card!!
Thanks Kx

There's nothing really wrong to put on a claim form. I just made sure i was correct with every thing that happened & also the date's it happened on. Your vet will have to write on it anyway. Oh & the insurance nearly always look at your horse's Vet records any way. I did my 1st one in 19years of horse ownership in Dec 05, i was a nervous wreck as i had never filled one in before. They paid out over £1,500 for my claim it did take nearly 3 months to get paid out though. I didn't pay the to vets that where involved as i asked for the insurance to pay them direct. I could afford to pay such a large amount. If you can take photo copies of the finished claim form in case the Insurance lose it & you have to do another. This happened to me I'm with Petplan. Good luck i hope they quickly sort it for you.

Thank you. The college said that if it was over £1000 then they would deal with insurance, unfortunately its not this time! Although he may have to have the op in Feb so may need to do another claim I hope it doesn't take to long as paying off dog vet bills as well each moth of card! My insurance company is KBIS, so is a known company. Kx

I have been claiming for the first time in 30 years !!! so i didnt know what to do, the claim form was very straight forward (NFU) and i filled it in easily, then gave it to my vet who filled in his part , the fees were paid directly to my vet (there was a box to tick on the form wether you wanted to pay it yourself or it to go straight to the vets ) so i havnt parted with a single penny yet (apart from £100 physio bill which i sent to the claims dept with a note explaining that I had paid that and i recieved a cheque back within the week), there was no mention of what the amount may be a the start and im up to at least £1800 so far (sprained tendon) cannot fault NFU so far , just hope hubbys mare doesnt do it again !!!!Good luck

I would just put investigation for lamness found to be locking stifle they may put a note on insurance that you cant claim for that again they are sly g**ts. I sent mine to the vet and he wrote what he did etc.

KBIS share the same Underwriters as Petplan, i have my old boy with KBIS on there veteran plan. Worked out cheaper than Petplan for more cover. You shouldn't have any problems, but insurance is insurance if they can find a get out clause they will. Can you tell in skeptical when it comes to insurance lol. Good Luck

If you have already paid the vets then claim the money yourself and stand over the vet while they fill in the form and take it away and post it. (And take photocopies before it goes). I believed the vet when they said that they had sent in one form - they hadn't. I had already paid the vet and I was waiting and waiting to be refunded. When I got hold of the Insurance Company they hadn't received the form. Lesson learnt. Don't rely on anyone else. Of course, if the vets had been waiting for the money they would have sent the form off quickly! It was the NFU and the paid quickly when they got the right forms.
