I have just bought a 14 hand coloured cob. She has no withers so I am finding it difficult to get a saddle to fit. Have tried a few which are extra wide and seem to sit well but roll when she is being ridden. Any advice!

An anti-slip numnah, like a limpet or Impakt pad can really help, as can an old fashioned 'string' type girth.

Oh I've ridden a few with no withers in schools. Quite unbalancing.
I'd say your best bet is to have a master saddler come & fit you out. They'll bring a selection for you to try on the day & take it from there.

I'd echo buying a made to measure saddle, I own a witherless wonder! I used to have a Saddle Company made to measure saddle and it was extremely good value for money and a lovely saddle, I sold it on to a fellow DG'er on here and I believe it's doing well!
If you really want to splash out then I would also recommend a WOW saddle, I bought one two years ago for my boy and am very pleased with it, the best thing that it can be refitted whilst on your horse.

Just bought a string girth from Simply Stubben on E-bay for my witherless one. Lovely. Just type in cord girth on a search.

You really want a qualified saddle fitter (or even better a master saddler with saddle fitting qualifications).

If she's wide and has no withers, you will have a few fun and games finding the right saddle to fit her.
With my roly poly wide boy, I use both an elastic eventing surcingle and a breastplate and find that they help enormously with keeping the saddle where it should be. You might find them helpful too, when you've found the right saddle.

I had to go the made to measure route for my exmoor. Only then did I stop having slipping trouble!

Mine has no withers. I bought a Flyde show saddle and it never slips. Its exactly the same as the Ideal Ramsay which I had tried before buying the flyde.

Arabs sometimes have low/no withers as well, and there's a company called the Arabian Saddle Company that makes saddles specially for them - might be an idea for your girl as well? Just a thought - I have no experience of this problem, so don't really know!

Many thanks for the helpful advice. i have found a extra wide saddle which looks okay. I looked at a treeless but have been advised you cannot show in a treeless saddle.
