Hi Susan, I tried a Dr Cooks, but my mare hated it so it wasn't for us I'm afraid!

I voted sidepull, but i use 3 sidepulls (2 plain,1 rope nose), a bosal, 1 happywheels, and a english hackamore, tho i have german hackamores and a dr cook aswell.

Tex hated the Dr Cooks.
Have ridden in a sidepull but not entirely confident in it at the mo.

I have a Dr Cook but fatty doesn't seem any happier with that than with a bit and is much less likely to try the spin and bog off home tactic in a bit so she has a normal snaffle bridle. Mia is bitless because she isn't used to bits yet, tried Dr Cook but steering isn't too good on her with it so at the moment I'm using a headcollar but need to think of something better.

With the happywheel you can buckle the straps and reins on to give you different amount of pressure. I have mine so that it uses mostly nose pressure, and then i can lift my hands to engage the curb chain if i need it. works very well on maddie who used to drag me home in the dr cook.

I voted other as i have a Libbys Scrawbrig, steering isn't brilliant but then it's not in a bit either...... bit like the non-existent brakes sometimes - LOL - no difference bitted or not..

I've got or have tried most of these, but voted for English Hackamore as that's the one I prefer at the moment. But I also ride in the dually, and if I can afford it, I will buy a nice leather sidepull from Plas Equestrian. The only one I would not touch is Dr Cooks .
