Kanga has a point, if the insurance isnt going to cover him, its alot of money already spent on one horse by someone with no emotional attachment to an animal. Maybe you need to ring the insurance company and then the vet to find out exactly whats what and what costs your dad will be responsible for. What is does the vet think of him at this point of time...has it improved since been rested without a badly fitted saddle

Work from your own point of view sophie. I have 5 horses of my own, my parents have nothing to do with them i pay for everything and do whatever i want with them.. They can't say how i look after them or do with them because i do what i think is best for them..
BIG HUGS to you at this hard time. Do what is best for your neds

The meat man element, was heavy handed by the way IMO. Retired? Rested for an indefinite period? Companion to your other horses? If he can't be put right, and please God he can, there are options other than the knackerman surely.

Its my mother who always moans about the cost of the horses/dogs/cats though ive had my own home for 22years and she never pays a penny towards them, but they still cost too much!!!!!!! I hope you get Ryan sorted.

If the vet bill did run up, would it be you having to pay for it, or yor Dad? If it is you, then he has no right to moan

hummmm well when i came to uni my parents agreed that if i had any vets bills they would pay them (they being my Mother mainly). but ive already told them that if they dont/ cant pay this bill i will sort it.
kanga... the thing is ive spoken to him about other options, if he cant come back into work and he isnt interested. he just says 'im not paying to keep a horse that is no use to anyone' he doesnt pay for them i do!
erms and Mags... Ryan has improved loads since not being ridden! he is looking just about like a normal horse so much tat when the vet came out a few weeks ago she thought t had sortedout ttally and it was only after noting some strange muscle formation that she decided there is still and underlying problem somewhere. shethen thought it may have been a slight hind limb unsoundness so he had both back legs x-rayed... which have come back fine. and thatis as far as we have got!
