After the grumpy commentator incident a couple of weeks ago, we decided to have a yard fun day for Christmas, and yesterday was the day. We had a Christmas turnout, handy pony, gymkhana and clear round. It was absolutely freezing and very foggy, but hot mince pies, stollen, mulled wine and hot chocolate helped. Some of the costumes were amazing, here are a few.
Rhona and Jack with Ellie one of the liveries friends who was helping to hold down the raging beast!
Saffy with Smartie who was the only pony to blot his copy book but running off with Ellie and throwing her not once, but three times.
Tyler with Monty, who was the winner, as a Christmas Tree, the detail was amazing.
Rose with Topper as Santa, love the beard.
Nicola with Nirvana who only moved onto the yard the day before and behaved brilliantly
Iain with the 'angel' Ebony he had beautiful wings but you can't see them as he was being a huge handful for poor Iain, who doesn't really do horses.
Cat with Sky who went more for the real competition than the fancy dress, and yes won most things, blinking competitive child that she is. Although she did let the younger ones win a few races.
Poppy with Prince, who looked almost pleased to be in a dress!
Kirsten borrowed Win for the morning, as his owner brought her two year old Luso for the experience.
Everyone had a great time, and there was a great deal of laughter, sportsmanship and care for the ponies. I shall never forget the sight of Pauline, who retired this week, running down the school with a flag and a 2 year old Luso, chased by Rhona flat out on Jack, who for once didn't buck once, and Kirsten on Win shouting that she couldn't find the brakes.
