I'm not really overfussed, except for the fact that the 2yr old is being lunged. Since when did a child of that age "lunge" a horse? the horse is merely on the end of a long rope, which the child is holding, yes she may in her little child head be "lunging" the horse and the horse is simply humouring her..... Her father (i presume it's her father) is right by her, and was no doubt ready to pick her up should something go wrong, (notice it didnt) . As for loose dogs running about, I regularly go in the school on my dog hating horse and have the dog running beside me, take her on hacks too.... I see you didnt say anything about this 2yr old horse having a saddle on it's back? Like SS3 so rightly said...Chill out! Have your opinion by all means but dont rip the video apart when you dont know the "stars" .... It's not my child or horse on the vid... just a vid i found on youtube which I liked and thought you guys would like it too!

Here Here SS3, I do remember those pictures and I was blown away by the trust that the mare had. I looked at the video and my first thoughts were, what a wonderful childhood that little girl must have with parents who obviously adore her. I am in my forties and have great memories of my "dangerous" childhood On a different note, I am step mum to a 10 year old boy and 12 year old girl, and I am afraid I acitively encourage them to have fun outside instead of in front of the tv, last week William had a great day throwing himself down an enormous old sand bomb crater, very steep yet soft, yes he could have broken something I guess but all he did was get very dirty!

yes..my point covers that, I'm not so bothered by it having tack set on it, but a 2yr old should not be being lunged. it is blatantly being lunged and used to it. Sorry, I didn't realise we weren't allowed to disagree. I think I shall go hide in a hole now.

Specialsparkle.........I genuinely thought I had the wrong video as generally people are so quick to say, hat/safety/lunge/ride a 2 year old! and none of that was being said.
But, yes, you are right, for once I am jumping on the H&S bandwagon regarding horse and child. I don't really care about the horse being lunged , moaning on here about it is pointless as it is merely preaching to the converted.
However, I do seriously care about the example that clip sets to people with small children. I happen to have an extremely good reason for feeling this way.
Have you ever seen a child trampled by a horse because it happened to be infront of one when it was startled?
I have, it was not pretty, I sat drenched in blood, holding her in the back of the car whilst she screamed, and screamed because she was broken, I can hear those screams to this very day some 25 years later. No air ambulance in those days.
I am all for children being allowed to be children, let them climb trees, wade in rivers, make camps, dig holes, get filthy, so what, they are washable, that's what being a child is all about.
Nobody with an ounce of common sense would let children play in mine shafts, in corn fields at harvest time, on the edge of raging rivers or train tracks etc would they? The point I am making is, sure, let children experience things, have adventures and freedom, but we, as adults, still set the boundaries.

That must be a terrible sight to see, Lolamae, and you have my every sympathy to be that person... but you cannot say that every horse will trample a person in fright, as I too have seen some pretty remarkable things involving horses and young kids..... How the particular horse kept it's cool, i dont know had she not the kid certainly would have had serious injuries. No Air ambulances either in them days. But yes, I do see where you are coming from and that situation would bring back some terrible memories.... But look at it for what it is, and not what it could be.

Lolamae I can quite see where you are coming from in this case. What happened infront of you, will unfortunately live with you forever, --------------as will the memories of the driver who unavoidably hit a small child running infront of his car, or the social worker who failed to report child abuse in time to save the child's life, or the person who let their trained guard dog into a room with a baby, or the parents who left their child unsupervised in a Portuguese villa. The fact is, this innocent video was of a proud father and his amazingly confident little daughter holding the rope of an amazingly quiet 2 yr old horse. As Julz said, in this case, nothing untoward happened. Please try and see it for what it is, ----------------a charming video meant to make us go Awwww.

I thought it was a great video!! Lunging a two year old isnt what i agree with but that child is by far one of the luckiest to grow up in such a wonderful enviorment.

It's a hard one. Yes, it's a gorgeous video - cutest little girl, seriously kind, laid back youngster. I wish it had been the same age as the girl - I would have felt better but ...... I did lots of silly, potentially dangerous things with horses when I was young - and survived. But it still frightens me to see such a small child in that position. If it DID go wrong - and it only takes a split second - ..... But I still liked the video!

I liked the vid, though like a lot of people felt unhappy about seeing a tacked up 2 year old. Having had 3 children, you see so many near misses in everyday non horsy life even apart from horsy things so it is very difficult to say which risks are wrong and which are right. So often, too often these days kids have accidents because they have no perception at all of danger, and that lack of perception is a danger in itself to them. Where the ideal is I dont know. As a parent you just have to do your best.

Every day our children are at risk, in every thing that they do.Frpm the moment they wake to the time they go to bed! I consider myself a good parent, and would never endanger my child, but like ss3 has already shown pics of, something so innocent, can turn nasty in seconds. But i am sure the parents are never too far away!! And would never risk their child. The pictures are perfectly innocent, and lovely too.
I posted an innocent pic of my daughter on her pony... and within seconds the nasty comments started.Yes i know she had no hat on, but i was at the pony head , and her dad standing at the side. Although the pony is as safe as can be, we never leave her unattended with her pony. She will pick her feet etc, but always with us at the side.
As a 7yr old child, i was dropped off at the yard, and picked up at 5pm. My parents had no interest in horses, but knew how much i loved being around them.I remember cantering bareback up a open field,no hat, no tack etc. i used to ride bareback up the road to turn my horse out. I guess i took big risks. but it wasnt that my parents didnt care about me, it was their ignorance to the dangers.
However my daughter has had an accident when being given a one to one swimming lesson, chipped cheek when a child hit her in the face with cruthes on school playground, all with supervision. Accidents will happen, its part of growing up.
I have seen pics on here and had bets with other half, as to how long before the nasty comments start. eg bad fencing, too much poo in fields, kids on over sized horses, the list goes on.
Yes everyone is allowed to post their opinion, but also consider posters feelings(especially if its their family photos) . I very rarely post pics on here, unless i have checked everything from forground, to background,to horse and rider, to make sure everthing is 100% correct, otherwise i dont post.
Lets enjoy videos, pics etc, because behind every pic, is a proud owner or rider. xx
