I am going to Rideaway with my Christmas vouchers to buy a new hat and short boots, I have £100 fabulous pounds to spend!! I like the Harry Hall hats with the vent and have some MH boots I have had for 6 years but which now are only fit for the bin sadly.
WHat would people recommend?

I must say I bought a Troxel legacy vented hat (ebay) for very little money and love it. Ooh I love shopping for stuff!

Ooops Carol, just realised I haven't replied to your text with all the Xmas stuff going on! Friday is awkward as it is the only day I am working, is that when you are going to Rideaway? No advice for hat or boots I'm afraid, I love my muck boots and my hat is gathering dust!

In regard to your hat, get an assistant to fit you properly and then choose any you like out of the ones that fit correctly LOL! (I say this because my head must be a really funny shape and I am very hard to fit, as some hats are too low at the back of my neck and give me huge headaches!). For boots, do you want long or short? Are they boots to do horsey jobs in or just for best/riding? Once you decide whether they are multi purpose or purely for riding in, then you will know which to choose. Enjoy your shopping! xx

Another vote for Troxel hats, I have the Spirit (I think). I've just had some Harry Hall Faros for riding, they're nice and flexible around the ankle. Enjoy!

I've got one of the harry hall vented hats, its really comfortable but not quite as good for cooling your head as the types that have huge vents like Troxels.
I have MH boots with steel toecaps and they've saved my toes many times and are great for riding and faffing about on the yard.

Well just spent an hour at Rideaway, hat was no problem, first one fitted so got the Harry Hall elite in Navy, simple, then spent an hour (yes an hour) trying on boots, all short as have troublesome big calves, either too wide, too tight, too big or too small. I tried identical pair of MH safety boots that I already have (bought 6 years ago however) and they were like boats, size down were too small. Boo hiss at feet.
So came away with no boots, I liked the Harry Hall Alegre but they only had them in brown which I didn't like and they aren't getting anymore in. So if you know any alegre in the blue size 6 do let me know!! LOL
But the good news is that after years of being ashamed at my calf size I can now fit into chaps!!! Tried some MH ones on but they were too short but were plenty wide enough, and you guessed right they aren't getting anymore in!! They were the sport legging type with the red down the side.
Can the rider be barefoot as well as the horse I wonder! LOL
Sorry Dizzy, should have sent another text to you, I am sure we will find a day when we are both free LOL.

you could try going barefoot but may need boots for the stones incase you get "footy"

I have the same problem as you Carol, short wide calves, I found the only boots that fitted me were short wide Mountain Horse High Riders, they are fab and last for ages.
