Gutted completely forgot it was on. Whose the whitaker on 148's, is it Joe? seen him afew times this year and his riding always catches my eye as I love one of his pony's. Very talented pony but the rider makes it look so easy. I suspect he may not quiet be the same pony with another rider

That would be George, Mags. Riding Miami Bound? He has now passed Miami Bound onto Donald Whitaker though, which is a shame but nice to see family helping family.
ETA Joe is Ellens Brother, was in the Hickstead Speed class last year or maybe the year before.

There are that many of them, it is a job to keep track of who's who, who belongs to which brother or whatever, that it needs a genealogist to remember them all!

... he didn't thank his horse at all... You thank your horse by asking nothing of it. His riding, for me, was thanks enough; guiding where needed and not getting in its way. Whereas his cousin who lost, did so by unbalancing and distracting the horse totally to use his whip. They both got the results they deserved. I absolutely agree with that, Catrin. How wonderful to be able to ride like that - sigh!

I use to have the same horse dentist as john and michael about 15 years ago,and he told me they were always drunk and sleeping in the lorry!( usually fell out when he arrived apparently!) Fantastic riders and trainers though, maybe its all the booze keeping them relaxed,I would need at least one full bottle of brandy before I would face jumps that size!lol! Not very discrete about his clients, then, Sarahfox! Now we all know why a stirrup cup (or two, or threee!) goes down so well when hunting ;D

Watched it too and thoroughly enjoyed it! I agree the young lad looked so shocked to win - I thought he might have had a tear in his eye!!! xx

Tim Stockdale said William was almost in tears as he rode out- of joy I should imagine! His riding is exemplary, as I said, I just wish our young dressage riders had his hands. I watched one of our supposed brightest British dressage hopes for the future, the other night at Olympia- ok, so her horse is absolutely huge, but there were backwards tugs on the reins, sometimes left and right, sometimes both hands at almost every step.
William's riding was pure, utter pleasure to watch, the way he had him so light and balanced, coming into that huge wall, had me on the edge of my seat. My poor dog wondered what the hell was going on, as William cleared it and I leapt, whooping my head off, off the sofa!! ;D

Hehehe Heather I set my 2 labs off barking leaping up and yelling, they thought I had gone mad!! On a purely asthetic basis william is MUCH prettier than Robert so would prefer to see more of him on the tele!! His riding was beautiful he and his horse were so in tune, truely inspiring to see.

Oh I love the whitakers williams rider was simply beautiful - loved the softness all the whitakers seem to have. Robert made a mistake but im sure he'll learn from it Also really liked Jessica today she gave all the credit to her super horse

I thought Jessica's interview afterwards was lovely too, Gem - brought a tear to my eye, as she obviously has so much respect for that wonderful mare.
Loved the Puissance too, thought William was fantastic. Robert made a big misjudgement, but hey he was approaching a 7'2" wall on a horse going absolutely no where! Mind you, I DID love Finbar - how that horse managed to get his gangly huge frame over that wall so many times at such a slow speed was amazing, he made SO much effort not to touch it - even the last time when Robert made it as difficult as possible for him, when you watched it in slow motion, that horse still tried with every fibre of his body to clear that wall, what a wonderful horse.

Jessica really deserved that title, what a fantastic ride she gave that mare, and cooorr what a partnership they really are. I loved how she gave all credit to her horse, but its not just the mare is it? shes fab, too, and so obviously thinks greatly of her horses, which is lovely to see. Also, another up and coming whitaker, Thomas, also rode Miami Bound, won at HOYS.

Heather - I think i saw the same british dressage rider as you on a huge horse tugging at its mouth every single stride and spurring it. I missed the puissance unfortunately (my birthday party ) but i saw the six bar on thursday and robert rode brilliantly, as did the other 2 who drew 2nd. the foreign rider on the tiny horsey was soooooooooooo excited it was lovely to see.

i watched it too. how terrifying!?
why wasnt i born into such a family!? unfair. i think they have great opportunities though, born into a riding family and if you jump a lot etc when young - thats where you learn a lot. i was older so i'm wimpy!
i must admit, i'd be too worried about my expensive horse to let it jump so big!
i think william rode well too. a great assett to the sport.
