She looks pained to me. I would deffo get her checked out or send her back When Alfie bolted in a scared way his head went right in. Haflingers are supposed to carry their necks long and low like the are constantly picking their way through mountains - apparently - and alfie does just that, his head has never once gone anywhere near as high as that!

Looks to me that JL was holding her back thus her evading by putting her head up. Coblet would do exactly the same. Get her 5 star vetted for piece of mind.

I think your right she was trying to run away from jamielee or the bit or pain what ever is causing it and holding her back made it look like she was all over the place...lol...she was ! hence why im haveing a crisis moment..am going to get her vetted here, she deserves a chance and could of injured herself in transit, she was great when we tried her out, although she did put her head up a few times and chew the bit then too, but we knew she was green..i will get my vet out initially, then Jenny if you read this ..will txt you too, can you come over soon..lol..and Mags if you have time or your friend does, could you pop over hun?

She does look in pain Gail. The other thing is that she is also in a strange place, doesn't know you or Jamielee and maybe needs a few days to settle? So if you could get her teeth, back etc checked along with the vetting and do some groundwork with her whilst you are waiting for that to happen fingers crossed everything could fall into place. I wouldn't be riding her until all those checks had been done to be honest, as she really doesn't look comfortable.

I thought back pain too - have you done a few simple tests to see if she's at all sensitive anywhere? Also, I'm not usually an advocate of lungeing but can you try her from the ground to see if you have the same reaction?

I'm working all week Gail and teaching on Saturday. I can come over on Sunday but if I were you I'd want her checked before then!
Can you ask her owners when she last had the dentist? What bit are you using and what bit was she in when you tried her?
I can't tell from that vid but I wondered if she was stepping short with her right hind? Have you checked her back for any sore spots?
Try free schooling her to see if she moves better with no saddle or bit. If her teeth are hurting though you will get the same reaction riding or lunging from a headcollar though. Lukas would not lunge at all when he got here, the dentist came and lo and behold he had sharp teeth. He wouldn't even lunge in a headcollar, it must have been pressing on the sore bits.
She does look uncomfortable and I would be suspicious, especially if you say she was different when you tried her.
If I were you and my initial checks didn't reveal anything obvious, I would go back to the vendor and explain the problems. Maybe you could negotiate a reduction in her price to allow you to get her fully checked over before you decide. If they are genuine and have nothing to hide they shouldn't mind knocking £100 off for you!

Would agree with others on here, have your run your finger down the side of her jaw to see if there are any sharp edges on her teeth?

It could be so many things though. The fact that she is in a new environment and may need some time to settle is aggravating of course. Spirit's back and teeth are ok, yet when he's nappy, he's hollowing his back and making a wondeful giraffe impression which can be followed by small rears. A lot of it is Spirit expressing himself. Spirit won't take any discomfort or annoyance without letting me know "loudly".
HOWEVER, while some of it is neverousness/stropiness, some of it I know has to do with his bad joints in his hinds. He needs a lot of warming up. Right now, the ground is just too hard for him and he plants to and from the field and finds it really hard to handle. I've put his boots on but only have fronts and it's the hinds that make him uncomfortable. Toons is fine with only fronts and he's the one with LGL...
I agree with others, you will either need a thorough check or to return her.

I thought she looked stiff in her left hind... But I'm not very good at this kind of thing! I agree with a thorough vetting or sending her back

I've watched the video a couple of times now and seen it right through to the end where she walks.
There does look like there is something going on with the right hind. More noticable in walk, she just isn't bringing it through as evenly as the other.
The head issue looks to me like a combination of excitement, greeness, scared of her mouth/the contact and perhaps another problem with her back.
I think a full MOT is needed first before you do anymore riding. She looks a nice pony!

hi there
I agree with the suggestins for a physical exam by a good horse vet:
I saw the right hind moving differently to the left, and that head carriage is a real concern -
if she checks out physically then I would be tinking of a lot of ground work including long lining to encourage her to adjust her head carriage abd relax...
good luck

Thanks everyone, its so nice to know your all here giving me support..i so want to give this girl a chance, i have had the farrier out today and he said he wouldnt touch her now as her feet have been taken down to low all round, diy job! so he said hed do her next time..I also have Oakham Equine hospital vets coming out tomorrow so will see what they say and keep you updated,
shes a little more settled this morning, but after walking through the electric to get to dancer she is now in the boys paddock, and is happy as larry, even came over to me for a smooch bless her..she hated coming away from the boys but wasnt too bad, just very alert and worried about dancer shouting for her. She did stay with me though and walked nicely..she does play the dont want to be caught game but i can play that one too..lol.. Jenny will ring you later on to arrange sunday, ive watched her hooling around with the boys, she does have quite a high head carriage when alert as norm and her movement was fine that i could see, i dont think she has seen a dentist as she was only imported about 4 months ago, she was ridden in a drop cheek french link, but they have said someone rode her in a fulmer, i am more and more inclined to think she was only broken to ride when she was imported and everything was rushed, maybe i should start her again mouthing her again...but will wait for the out come of the vet. Also Mags you poor thing..hope you feel better soon..
will keep you all updated after the vet has been out tomorrow..

Hiya,
Agree with the suggestions re: getting her checked out... just doesn't look quite happy...
But good luck with her, she is absolutely GORGEOUS! Please let us all know what happens!
