She did hold her head quite high when jamie lee tried her out. but she arrived yesterday and jamielee had a little ride today, Anyway i could of sworn she dragged off hind toe a bit, could just be working on the fore, but her head is so high, she was a pain to get the bridle on in the first place, and really chews the bit big time, im thinking maybe we have a teeth issue, what do you think? I put a loose flash on her but it made no difference so wont bother with that again. am loading up pics n vid so check back in a few mins.. she is a bit over weight, and very broad around the chest, i wonder if she has been driven too. anyway, the marks across her chest are from an ill fitting rug and should go soon..its funny how the horse you get home is not very often the same as when you tried them! i have 30 days on this horse, obviously i dont want to spend a fortune on chiros ect if i send her back, i have the farrier coming out tomorrow anyway so she will be seen by him, although i think shes had a bad home job done, our farrier will sort her out if theres a bit of lameness caused by poor work, she has no shoes, how long do you wait before you ride your new horse out? she was very fresh and is obviously feeling a little insecure.. She travelled well and off loaded very calmly, but a night out here and she seems less relaxed than yesterday? s47.photobucket.com/albums/f161/gailndancer/?action=view¤t=DSCN1566.flv

She perhaps feels nervous, and maybe she hurted herself on the journey to you? She may need teeth doing as well - of her feet ar a bit dodgy then probably her teeth will be too. Bless her, she will come right I'm sure.

I would think seriously about back or teeth problems with a head carriage that high, would deffinatly suggest uncomfortable somewhere

Looks uncomfortable/trying to tank off to me - lot of bit evasion going on there... teeth, back, feet check required and I would definitely leave her to settle in for a few days with some groundwork and bonding...

Shes definately trying to evade something but it could be her back or teeth. Have you worked her with no contact? If she is more relaxed i would think its her teeth. She definately needs checking to make sure its not a pain issue.
It could be a habit if shes been ridden in pain or forced into a contact before although ive never seen that much evasion because of a remembered pain. One of my old ponies did the same but not to that extent and it was habit from being forced into an outline. Some long and low stretching work then bringing her back up over time sorted it out.

couldnt get a vet out up there before christmas so i will get one out here definately, and also get her teeth and feet done, trouble is with christmas approaching at such speed i think im gonna be hard pressed to get someone to check her back before christmas!..the more i think about it the more i think its dental, she was hard work to get the bit in her mouth and then proceeded to crunch on it big time! I will contact our eqdt tomorrow and hopefully he can come out pretty sharpish..she also knocked her fetlock n the lorry ramp, maybe thats sore!..jamielee only got on her to see if the saddle we had fitted her, its not a bad fit but will get that checked too..will definately get some ground stuff done on her, she was a bit big for her boots coming in...lol..hmmfff great start!

Mmmm, difficult to see in the video exactly whats going on, she seems to be tracking up OK from what I can see. As others have said, it could be evasion, but I know if I took Zico somewhere strange, in a large open field, he would bring his head up in excitement (he often shakes his head when he is wound up too!)?. Could there be lots on tension going on? She doesnt look comfortable tho, is there a manage that you can take her in where Jamie could work her in a bit and see is she settles any better?

How about trying Headcollar and reins on the D ring with the back up of bridle/bit and reins underneath. That way you are taking away the bit and seeing if it is a back problem. If she tanks JL has the bridle and reins for back up. Would JL ride her bare back?? Another way of seeing if the saddle is the problem. Definately rushing from something. Her back is dippy. But then work and loads of lunging will help build her topline back up. She looks very similar to coblet. He was just green and needed a more experienced Aunty Jen to help us get better together. JL can work with Elsa Im sure.

sherb sometimes carries his head that high through nerves only. the horse did look uncomfortable but it might not be pain. still, if that's the first time he had that saddle on it could be that. just it feeling far different from what he's used to can cause a lot of anxiety. when I first put a treed on sherb he did something similar and wigged out a bit. good luck :-)

The headcollar/bareback idea is good, but it may have become a bit of a habit is she's been in pain for a while, so if she still does it I wouldn't be completley disheartened.
What bit is she in? Maybe you could see if you could borrow a different one to see if she's any different.
She looks like a really nice horse, I hope you can sort the headcarriage thing out.

Have you got someone who can have a look till you can get vet etc out. I can recommend someone if you want who iv always found good for spotting stuff. Id offer a look but noone wants me looking at their horses. I find something wrong with 90% of horses I see. In fact the other girl here cringes when i ask her if she has got a minute cos she knows Im gonna ask her to look at her horses action.... my point is dont panic yet most horses have something just like most people who do sport.
Oooo how about Jenny to for lesson bet she could help

guessing if she has been driven on the continent before she came here she may well have had a bearing rein on She does seem a little upside down and although cobby she is fairly thick through the neck so it will take time to get her head down. Teeth is always a good check and to be honest once that is done I would give her time to settle and being cobby necked she will find it hard to come soft and round until her muscles are gently realigned

she looks to me like she is holloing her back away from the saddle, the vid stopped short of the finish when i played it, it left a good freeze frame of the pony extremly hollow, which you would expect if she has her head up high, still feel its to do with her middle somewhere, either have her vetted, or get the chiro out, traveling takes an awful lot out of them too,

Back , mouth, sacroiliac strain, no one has mentioned that she was disunited throughout the canter steps that she took. I would rather send her back now pre christmas, then have her vetted before spending any more money on her , hard I know but thats life.
