I've made some progress the last few days, full details are on "The Sherbinator" on PC. Just posting to say that today I'm not riding, I'm going to longrein his little ginger head right off, then put Megan on him and do a bit of schooling, then might offer to get the farmers daughter's pony out so she can ride in the school with a leader as she has a little less confidence at the moment. No pressure on me and probably less pressure on Sherbert so all good!! I'll be posting later with a full rundown and piccies!! Wish me luck.

Here is the update, the pics will have to wait until OH comes back from walking the dogs, I need him to put them on photobucket because I'm too lazy to learn how to do it. I'll have to jump up and carry on putting washing away when he first comes as well as shouldnt be sat here with tea and fag on the DG as usual!!
Firstly, sherb has been making a fuss about going into his stable recently. There is a bit of a dodgy slippy muddy bit on the way onto our mini yard and I think he feels insecure on it so he has started to kind of run around me in circles rather than just walk up it. So firstly I cleared a palate away which our straw usually stands on so he could approach on the concrete. It took ages but I got him onto the yard but by then he had realised I was making a special effort for some reason and refused to go in!! I just put him in Hatty's stable instead, than confused him!! Then we did tacking up, he was a bit naughty but we managed, once the girth is loosely fastened he seems to give in. He had his bridle on lovely, he always does. I put the longreins on the dually nose rings and and a leadrope through the chin ring. Megan went along in front to give him a bit of support with the lead and I longreined him all the way down the lane and onto the main yard. He was ace. Into the school and round and round for a bit, a few small paddy's and generally running round with his head in the air but nothing I couldn't handle. Got some nice outlined work but really, that isn't my priority at the moment, and he's the sort of horse i think that once he gets back into his work and starts enjoying it again, his way of going will come together on it's own (I hope!)
Then Megan came with her milkcrate to get on, he fussed a bit because I was standing there with her but I don't feel confident enough to let him loose on a small 13 yo yet so I had no choice really. I can teach her to do it the same way I have managed but it will take a bit of time. Eventually he stood still with her foot in the stirrup so I told her to jump on. He set off straight away, but again, he would have been more willing to stop if I hadn't been there pressurising him, too many cooks spoil the broth a bit. Nothing malicious though, just a bit of moving around. She stood him up and backed him and then let him go to work. He did mostly walk halt transitions and a bit of trot. He did nap alot but again, it's because I'm there, he wants to sit on his mummy's knee!! She did really well, very calm just backed him and did some turning manouvres untill he was ready to go forward, really she spent the rest of the session doing just that for a few forward steps here and there. The main thing was they were both really calm so it didn't matter, she was just calmly showing him what to do over and over again. ACE!! I let them out and he chased me up the lane trying to jump into my lap every time a croc moved in the bushes!! Nearly shoved me over the wall of death but hey ho. What a good boy. So he can do it, and so can I!!
We've decided not to worry so much about hacking together on him and Hatty. At the end of the day Hatty isn't mine and she's perfectly happy doing not much work, she's an old girl anyway. Sherb needs work and we can go down together and work him. I'm going to do basically the same again tomorrow but earlier so we have more daylight. I'll take my hat and stirrups and get on him this time and might take my schooling whip (tickling stick) to tickle his bottom get him a bit more forward. Please don't all jump on me for saying that, I do literally tickle him with it, it's not whistling in the wind or anything!

Here are the pics of today, not so good as my son was camera man and didn't both to wipe the rain drops from the lens!! Here they are backwards! Sherb being ridden by Megan, bless her cotton socks! Sherb trying not to be longreined! Sack the camera man! Don't wanna mummy!! If I kick the rein, does it die? Going quite nicely in this one. Later I'll post some of our death defying walk last week just for fun!!

Well done sherb! Good to hear you are making progress,I read your posts on perfect confidence today and felt really sad that you had knocked your confidence, not suprising with that fall you had,but it does make things very difficult and can easily get into a downward spiral. It sounds like you are getting back on top of things though,I think a lot will be about boosting yourself, although he doesnt look like the most straightforward horse in the world!

Thanks Sarah, the last thing he is is straightforward!! Very very ziggy zaggy horsey!! I'm going to try to get some ridden pics of him tomorrow in a nice trot to see what you think of him. He spent alot of his time today going backwards or sideways but I'll do my best!

Shortly afterwards Sherb was a bit naughty so we went home, and little Chance wanted to eat grass so his mummy had a bit of a battle on her hands too, serves us right for stopping for a picnic on the usual galloping ground! All three looking like butter wouldn't melt!!! Hatty and a camera shy meg!
