A man has been seriously injured and a horse has been killed in a collision with a car in Worcestershire. West Midlands Ambulance Service said it received a number of calls after the incident in Newland Common Road, Droitwich, about 1045 GMT on Saturday. Crews found a car thought to have been in collision with a horse being led by a man and ridden by a woman and child. The man, believed to be in his 30s, suffered serious head, shoulder and leg injuries. He was flown to hospital. A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said the driver of the car was checked at the scene by ambulance staff but did not require hospital treatment. He added: "Fortunately the woman and child who were riding the horse were not injured in the collision. "A vet that was called to the scene confirmed the horse had died in the accident."

I too, hate hearing stories like this, and my first thought, I'm afraid was that the driver was driving too fast, but I may be wrong. Poor poor horse, and poor poor family. What a terrible loss

Oh thats awful poor people & horse. Hi viz should be compulsery on roads. They might even had some on. Our friend lost her horse on the roads and she is understandably still terrified, but Misty being so good on the road has helped her to go out again.

Dreadfull news. I have stopped hacking out of my yard. One of my friends was chased up our estate by a teenager on a moped who on purpose swereved in front of her and reversed to spook her horse. Fortunatly her horse is incredibly dim and didnt really notice any of this!
Another moterist blocked the road to protect her and also kindly acted as a witness. The police cautioned the moped rider (local bobby is a horse watch member). After being hit some 6 years aog when hacking out this has put me off completly now. I keep my horse 8 miles from Birmingham town centre so no off road riding here(there was 12 years ago when I bought my horse but its all now built on) other than one park I can box to.
