Went to Robinsons today and saw one of these licks. Thought it might be good for my lad, hes really footy even though hes never been shod and has been barefoot trimmed for over a year. Well I bought it anyway but at £23 wondered if I wasted my money. Does anyone use it and does it do any good?

What's in it? You may be able to get the same effect via cheaper means, eg by feeding pure magnesium oxide for example. £23 would buy a lot of mag ox...

It is a huge block so should last a long time and apparently it is really easily available form of magnesium for them plus the other minerals that they need. Not really bothered at the price, just wondered if it works for sensitive feet? Will have to wait and see.

Can they actually take enough of it to make a difference though? I mean, if you need to feed 15g of magnesium, that's actually 30g of mag ox since not all of it's absorbed.....sounds like a lot of gnawing on a mineral block! Mine's a gnawer, though--he'd probably eat the lot in one go

Waste of money in my case, my lammi pony didn't touch it, but will lick away happily at a plain salt lick
