Hiya I was wondering if one of you awesome people could come up with a superb worming schedule/calendar/recommendation for me and my friend's ponies... Pony details are as follows: Dolly: 13.2hh 7 year old New Forest. Last wormed in November with Eqvalan Duo and previously on Equest. Has been with me since a 2 year old and regularly wormed. Dylan: 13hh 8 year old New Forest(?). Currenly on day 3 of a Panacur 5 day wormer. He's been with me a week and I do not know when he was last wormed or what with. He'll be sharing a paddock with Dolly from next weekend (they're both currently on their own). Blue: 13.3hh 11 year old cob. Last wormed in November with Eqvalan Duo and previously on Equest. Has been with his owner 4 years and has been regularly wormed in that time. Demi: 12.2hh 3 year old Dartmoor. Last wormed in November with Eqvalan Duo and previously on Equest. Has been with her owner 2 years and has been regularly wormed in that time. Blue and Demi share a paddock. Both mine and my friend's paddock are regularly poo picked and no other horses are in with them. We're quite keen to order our wormers in together to save on costs and we're considering putting all 4 of them together in the summer so having them on the same schedule would make life much easier Thanks a lot!

Might it be worth getting a worm count and bloods for tape in the spring?

We're planning on worming for tape regardless but not sure what to use or when as the weather's been all over the place this year...keen on the idea of worm counting

As I understand it you worm for tapes in Spring and Autumn. If you use something like Equest Pramox that kills not only tapes but all other types of worms, including encysted ones. And then you could worm count in Summer and Winter?
However I would stress that I am not an expert in worming. Hopefully someone like Diane will be on here soon and see this. She is an SQP so I am sure will be able to help. Also I think Gillb is another SQP?

Yes Gill is qualified as well and did my worming programme:-) I do Pramox spring and autumn and wormcounts other than that. This year as Flynn has been free of worms for at least 3 yrs for the counts I am doing with Pramox just in the autumn - unless the wormcounts show something else.

I'd worm for tape twice a year, and than wormcount. I do think that it is better than putting lots of nasty chemicals into your horses body.

As long as all are in good physical condition and have no underlying illnesses, they can all have Equest Pramox in Spring and Autumn with wormcounts in between. Make sure you weightape them each time and only dose as per their weight.

Thanks! So would you recommend the Equest Pramox in March (this won't be too close to Dylan's 5 day course will it?) and September and 2 worm counts in between? Would we then have to go onto a different chemical in 09? Sorry for all the questions but I want to get it right

At the moment I am only using Pramox - and for the foreseeable future as there is no resistance to it and Flynn seems quite happy with it - other than the taste anyway!!

Found these in Dylan's poo this morning: My friend thinks they're tapeworms...they came out alive...does this mean the wormer isn't effective? Is? Would he need another dose of wormer? I was planning on putting him out in a paddock within Dolly's tomorrow but if he's still kicking these out overnight, is it safe to do so (today's day 5 of the Panacur 5 day wormer). Thanks!
