Hello! I found this board and have been lurking for a while. I love to hear about people relationships with their horses in other parts of the world, and you all seem to have a really fun, respectful board.
Anyways, live in the heart of the western U.S., in an area called the Great Basin. I have sorta have three horses right now. One is a rescue that was dumped out on the range to die, a 24 year old Arabian gelding I've been calling Hambone. Once his case is resolved and I can get legal ownership of him, I'd like to re-home him with a place he deserves.
This is Hambone the rescue after returning from the vet... the bandages are for a nasty case of scratches. He's gained about 75lbs since I've had him.
The other two are cowhorses. "Bob" is a 8 year old 14.1hh, 1100 lb quarter horse. Bred to be a cutting horse, I do everything with him... and he's great! I've roped on him, gone cutting cattle, shown him in reining, taken him up in the mountains, jumped, done school visits with him.
The other is a 3 year old QH filly, also "cow-bred" thats been started under saddle and is coming along very nicely. Her name is "Susan" and I love her! She is short like her barn mate Bob, but thats the type I like!
I ride "western" I guess. I never really think about it as a style, more of just what I have. My goals are to learn as much as possible about good partnership and communication, also the art of the "bridle horse".
Here's me and Bob in a cowhorse show...
I work in public lands management, fight wildfires, deal with cattlemen and sheepmen, work in the wild horse program, fix fence and sometimes get to ride my own horses for work! (and get paid for it!)
Don't have a good picture of Susan to share, but this is Bob and Susan last year in the snow... they live outside year round, were born locally and are tough!
I also have a few sheep and some border collies and try to go in cowdog trials occasionally.
Thats about it!
