I had another great lesson on my boy the other day, first one since my accident, its ssooo much fun! We might be having a meet up at my place at the end of the month, keep checking the south east meet up thread x

Ok, having attended a clinic on Saturday I think I may be converted - I had such fun with my horses - more than I have had in a long time.
I'm based in South Bucks, near Maidenhead, along with BlueAli.
Any hints or tips to get me started would be very welcome...

Hi all,
I ride Western on my Quarter Horse, Blue, it's all he's ever done and I bought him 5 years ago to follow my dream to have a QH and ride western after seeing Monty's first video.
Due to many health and injury problems Blue has had, our western education has been a bit stop-start. However, I just love the western way and am hoping to resume our lessons soon. We have our own Western Riding club based here in Surrey, called Southern Counties Western Riding Club, and have members from Sussex, Kent and Essex too. We hold monthly meetings and clinics and have three shows a year - the next one in July, all very friendly and encouraging to the western beginner, but still competitive. I'm the treasurer, by the way!
Feel free to pm me if you would like more details.

Hey, hows everyone getting on with thier western? Im having lessons with David Lloyd, he's really good! Wish i could afford to have them more often though! My coloured boy is really taking to it too! Went to watch the western classes at the American Pleasure horse show at Pacesham EC on sunday, really interesting as lots of novice people on cobs etc, maybe i might get there next year!
Carina, can i borrow your books! lol

Hey Dani, Couldn't make Pachesham on Sunday - family commitments and all that :-( My friend went though and met David Lloyd - we are going to arrange shared lessons with him.
Have been thinking about joining WES for ages but having no transport would find it difficult to get to clinics etc. on a regular basis.

As a matter of interest - sorry I know it's the third post in a row - how seriously would I be taken in the Western Riding world for riding in a Barefoot Arizona (treeless western style saddle) and sidepull bitless bridle?
Is turnout in 'proper' western saddles and western bits a must for both showing and trail classes at shows? Would I be able to compete in a trail class in the tack i've got?

isi, my friend BlueAli rides in an Arizona (and is riding in the Championships in it), and I'm about to get one. You'll find it is just the opinions of people like in the English world that don't like them... can't help you on the side pull front though...

Hi Jen, that's really interesting and reassuring, thank you for replying. Which Championships is your friend riding in and what type of classes does he/she compete in?

Hello Western Peeps, I'm a gate crasher from East Anglia, we have a wonderfull western trainer and QH breeder called David Deptford hear in Norfolk. It's one of his school horses I'm riding in my Sig. Having gone western I will never go back, the attitude and the horses have blown me away! Just love nearly everything about it, will have to reserve judgement on the tassles ha ha! David Greys DVD's are good too, especially if your on your own at home with your horse, I have the begginers one if any one would like to borrow it? I've found the whole scene very friendly and it's really quite popular in our neck of the woods. Go have a look at this site if you like QH's! www.sovereignquarterhorses.com/index.php?option=com_eventlist&func=details&did=72

Hey isi, i dunno much about what tack you need but as far as i could see from the show at pachesham it doesnt have as many restrictions as english does. Bit wise people were riding in normal snaffles or western bits. I hope to compete in a class next year and its very likely i will still be in my snaffle!

Hi all, I've got a Heather Moffett Western seatbone saver that I've never used. Does anyone here want it? I bought it when I thought I was going to get into Western riding, but due to an old injury to my knee, I only found out at the end of my very first ride that I can't get out of a Western saddle!! (I can't put any weight and torsion onto my knee joint, so I can't step down from a Western saddle using my dodgy knee, but I can't 'land' on it either! And because you can't throw yourself forward over the front of the saddle to swing off coz the horn is in the way as you would in an English saddle, I think I executed possibly THE most ungraceful, in-elegant, ham-fisted dismount you'd EVER see... I think I saw the horse roll his eyes!!!) (I use one of Heather's 'normal' seatbone savers and highly recommend them to anyone who asks! My butt and I are eternally grateful!!) So if any of you are interested, please PM me. I bought it for £50, but would take £35 for it, incl. P&P.
