Dear Kelly,
A huge vote of thanks is due to the Intelligent Horsemanship Association yet again, on behalf of The Moorland Mousie Pony Trust. Our Association with you has now been going for nearly three years, and we are constantly indebted to everyone for their help and support with the ponies in our care. In 2003 we had reason to be even more grateful. As the IH chosen charity for the year, the final figure raised by the membership has just topped £2,000.
As a small charity, this money has been particularly welcome. Not only do we find ourselves struggling to keep going on a monthly basis, but we are also competing against the bigger charities for a share of the public’s generosity. We don’t have a publicity budget or press department, just lots of willing and dedicated volunteers working away in their spare time. The fact that this money has also been given to us “as and when” it has been donated has also made a difference to us on a monthly basis. Whilst a fat cheque once a year is very nice, when you’re working hand to mouth as we do, it’s a lovely surprise to get a bank statement and find that some kind soul has thought about us again this month - £10 may not seem to be much, but when a handful of you do it each month it soon makes a difference.
Many of you will have seen in the last IH newsletter that we have recently been awarded a grant of £60,000. This news was somewhat premature, and a little misleading. The money has been promised over a two-year period for specific projects, so we still have to look after daily upkeep and costs for the ponies. This is where your money has been most useful, and I am sure that you will all appreciate that we haven’t used your donations on administrative costs.
Whilst it is difficult to single out too many individuals, I would like to thank Adrian Cawdery for his skills in co-ordinating the fundraising events, as well as his sheer bravery in my opinion, for his sponsored abseil – thankfully he did it down a hospital wall, so at least he was in the right place if urgent first aid was necessary!! Veronica Flynn has produced some excellent psychic readings, for which many of you have been grateful and have sent donations. Diane Smith has auctioned beautiful paintings on ebay. And finally, a big thank-you to Kelly for allowing us to develop such an excellent working relationship with so many of you.
Our foal fostering scheme is still in operation. If any IH students would like to become involved with the handling of our youngstock, please get in touch. In the meantime, thank you all so much for your support so far – we shall look forward to the day when we can invite you all to our centre to see what we are doing first hand.
