are these marking, scars or both.... We are a bit divided at the yard, i personaly think these are a bot of both, but i have been told that roans do sometimes have marks like these naturaly..... Having never had contact with a roan before william i just wondered what your thoughts were....... ok left side ... and Right Side .... would be good to hear what you think

Hi GeeGee, Maybelline has marks like these too I'll get closer up pictures later. I didn't know if they were scars or not but hers seem in funny places?

I had a red roan who naturally had some spots on him. Lines I would have thought were more likely to be scars though as a line is not a very natural shape.

Hi Gee Gee, I have had a couple of Ardennes over the years and both have had these marks. I did find an explanation on a colour website but can't find it now. Some of the marks may be scars but my vet assured me that the marks on my gils weren't and that they are completely normal. HTH

Those are perfectly normal markings for a roan. We have a roan stallion with lines and spots, he has never been through a fence, or beaten and we have had him since he was a foal, and every year the markings change!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We have had roan foals (yes they pop out that colour) and they have the same markings. By the way chestnut and red roans show these markings more so than blues and bay.
