Yes my mare did this too.I thought oh no what have i bought, she was in a field on her own although she could see the gelding next to her she still wasn't happy she was digging big holes at the gate sweating with threating.
I put her in with gelding but had to take her out as he just kept chasing her round the feild, when i put her back on her own she was happy to graze but wouldn't venture too far away from the gate.My friend decided to move her gelding to the same yard and she settled nicely.
Then another problem arose she never wanted the gelding to leave her side ( but i know the reason for this!) .Moved my mare to another yard with lots of horses and she was great really settled. Now that the gelding is away from her she is even better.
I'm sure she will be fine once she has company of your other horses!!

I am so pleased she has finally made that long journey to her forever home, great news!
I would echo another DG'er, give her lots of Rescue Remedy if you can, it specifically is to calm and reassure and it sounds like that's what she needs bless her.
I guess lots of Pro and Pre-biotic is needed as well, but I'm sure you are giving her everythign that she needs.
Am dying to see piccies!
Just an idea but perhaps one of the big feed companies would be interested in helping you. Certainly the background that she has come from is about as tough as it gets, maybe the feed companies would be interested in helping you build her up so they could advertise before and after pictures, which would of course heighten the profile of the horses that go for slaughter.
I think Blue Chip use these kind of adverts.

Hi Lisa, just an idea but once your vet has checked her over, rather than putting her in with them all why not put one in with her - the 'top' horse/pony preferable that way she'll become friendly with the boss before meeting the others and if she is carrying something you have to treat then you have to treat just the two rather than all of them. It will be easier on her and in the event of her carrying something less expensive for you :-) Basically, the idea is quarantine another one with her...?

Hi, well ive had vet out shes been checked over and although weight is poor she seems fine, back, legs all fine. Although were wondering if maybe a stallion has had her as shes abit sore. Did nasal test, blood tests too to see if anything is going on there,. Her teeth are abit sharp so they will get done under sedation but we dont want to sedate her yet until weve had blood tests back. Heart is fine too. So Far so good.
Anyway ive had a manic morning and im grotty and need my bath. had vet out then she decided to show us her jumping skills so been out there heightening the fence, shes admitted defeat now thank god! then the local paper turned up with me looking a state lol now theyve all gone i need to chill. been stressful haha.
She has decided the rest of the field isnt so bad after all and is now making full use, now this is only in the last hopur so lets see if that continues.
She has definately been someones loved horse one day, she follows me everywhere checking out my D.I.Y is adeqit. shes been well handled and was very well behaved for the vet. She definantely knows im not out to hurt her. xx

Thanks, shes a little gem, shes 15'2hh just measured her. cant wait to put pics up, shes stunning, once she has some weight on she will be the perfect horse, so far so good im just still so annoyed how anyone could let her get into this state, but cerainly looks like its nothing that cant be fixed with plenty tlc. Im sure she will pile the weight on. Once bloods come back and if all is fine there too she will have her teeth done have her vacination and wormer then the rest is down to good food, she is on 5 small meals a day good hay and lovely short grass. Just how they like it.
Oh and it is me shes saying hello to she saw me go back in the field just now and gave the biggest winnie and came bounding over and stuck her chin on my head for 30secs while she chilled haha. Shes very perky and alert, so no depression signs, she does however love company but has settled down beautifully now. especially as ive spent all day out there with her doing something or another, off back out to razor her bot eggs of her. not having that on my horse lol xx
