I was just wondering, based on a couple of comments on different horses, if there are any common issues cropping up with the rescued horses. Catching is the one that springs to mind, but there may be others.
If there are, it might be useful to put together some short notes on how to approach these problems. I'd be happy to draft something, and maybe ask an RA to check/comment. We would, of course, be talking about general notes rather than any specific situations.
Something that would be helpful in any case would be to know a little more about how the horses have been handled during transport (I'm thinking more to the farm rather than to the UK) and on the farm itself. Often, commonly shared traumatic experiences can leave common fears. If, for example, the horses are herded with gates, gates can be remembered as a fearful object. If there are common threads, we could also look at producing some guidance there too.
What do you all think?

Wow yes! Thanks ;D
Honey is reluctant to follow on the headcollar, fine off it but thats not great when you need to take her somewhere! She isn't keen on having her back legs handeled but the farrier was able to giver her a little trim this morning after a week, she was great with her front feet but her hinds where she has the teather scars she kept trying to take her leg back! We just keep picking the leg up and putting them down, gradually increasing the time as shes not trying to kick at you?

Sounds like a good idea. Not sure whether there is a common thread or not,out of the 12 that we brought back from what I can gather, most are pretty good to catch, the trotters are lovely and easy,3 mares are very scared of people but unfazed by anything else.I guess it depends on where they were before they came to dept41? Perhaps if all individuals could post with their particular problems, then we could see what needs addressing? Personally,it is absolute terror of being touched by humans that we need to overcome with the 3.

Oh, so no interest then? ;D
1. The untouched horse - accepting human touch, having a headcollar on.
2. Learning to lead
3. Leg handling
Any others?
Edited for Gem!
