the only way is to lobby your euro MP's. they then have to raise your issues in the parliamentary sessions.

hi emw, are these new regs correct then? does that mean we are fighting for enforcement rather than regulations now?

The EU directive has been in place for some months now. It's enforcement that's the issue. The ILPH want the use of 'local' abattoirs made compulsive for destruction and the meat (on the hook) then transported to those countries who buy live now.

Hi, I've just joined this board, and have been fighting the corner for these horses on the H&H forum. As far as I can gather, one of the main pieces of info the ILPH require, is proof that the transporters are flaunting regulations. This is the EU document stating the requirements. europa.eu/scadplus/leg/en/lvb/f83007.htmI can't find the info where it states that horses that have been handled must be stalled separately, and the ramps must not be too steep. But it is now law. To help over here, if you go to the horse fairs, check out the butcher wagon. When I went to the fair at St Yrieix in the spring, the butcher truck was not stalled, the horses were definitely handled, and the ramp was like the north face of the Eiger. If I'd known about the regs, I would have taken his truck number and sent it to the ILPH. This is the kind of info they want. I appreciate those of you in the Uk are (luckily) unlikely to encounter these situations, but please then go onto the ILPH site and email them for info about what you can do to help. Funds are also very necessary, so any ideas for raising cash for them will be appreciated. www.ilph.org
