The French breeds of trait horses have very calm gentle natures, the horses at 86 have not ended up there through any fault of their own...actually none of the horses I have seen in any of the yards over here have shown signs behaviour problems.Of course no can tell what will happen you you start backing them but isn't that the case with any horse? Some have been roughly treated in these yards but their ability to forgive and trust again is just amazing...why on earth would they want to you wonder. Whilst we were at dept 86 yard on Tuesday the white faced boy got cast in his stall, instead of trying to help him the owner went in with a pointy stick and started prodding him,the poor horse was stuck it wasn't his fault ....ignorance is not always bliss!!

As you may know I rescued lanica(8yr old Percheron) french breed trait horse and she has been no real problem. She has been shy and we have had to do everything slowly. However don't see that as a bad thing really as it means that we are taking care with a new horse and not getting complacent! She doesn't appear to have a bad bone in her body, she now comes over when I go out will allow me to stroke her all over although she still isn't happy to have her feet picked up. We could have bought a horse that we knew the history of although could have had problems as not everyone is honest when selling their horses on!
Good luck whatever you decide!

Its so hard ..... My heart is crying YES but my head is saying think about it ... what problems will these horses come with.... I am so unsure..... sorry I went to meet Squigs horse, the huge trait breton and he is awesome! He is really docile, loves being groomed, he just stands there and lets you do anything. When Beckys husband walked away, he followed him round the paddock, it was so lovely to see. These are good weight carrying horses, i know you mentioned you wanted one and this breed would be perfect for you. Unlike a lot of the UK horses who get sent to the sales because of behavioural problems, as tag mentioned, horses sent for slaughter in France are not sent for those reasons.
I hope you find a lovely horse to save.

That is so sad tag13. I had just been looking at pictures of the white faced boy before reading about him being cast. He looks lovely. God I wish I could help him.
