Hmm - really not sure what happens if they're not sold, but some of the horses they have were originally rescued from their unsuitable homes in Portugal ...
Sorry for delay in replying to questions about which ones are for sale and prices, still having problems with the e-mail attachment ..... hope to sort it out tomorrow!
Smonebull, will PM you, and Sue W .... thanks, everyone, for your interest - but they really are some nice horses!
Sue x

hi All,
I have ridden with CDA several times. The horses aren't mainly pure bred. The previous owner before Ilana was excellent as finding not quite pure breds and bringing them on for trail riding. By the way, and don't shoot me down in flames Suer, they are NOT easy rides, I fell off Fiesta, she was very strong and fiesty (ok that was about 3 years ago when she was only 5 I think). I expect you are a great rider, and obviously have done well with the experience of bring one of their horses back, but I know someone who's ex CDA horse never goes outside of a school now as it got so strong. At CDA the trail rides can mean intense work - 4+ hours/day 6 days/wk, so when they come over here to the typical UK work volumes, problems can emerge. another on their for sale list bucks terribly (not Max, he did seem a sweetie).

Oh dear, I'm really sorry to hear that Nich, hope you weren't hurt ... which was the CDA horse who now never goes out of the school? I really wouldn't want anyone to take on a horse that wasn't suitable for them - if anyone wants to talk to me about a horse and I know it I promise I'll give a 'warts and all' review as I see it!
My girl is exercised every day, especially during the winter when I can't give her as much turnout as I'd like, but she is mostly ridden for only an hour a day in the week, and is perfectly calm with that. And she doesn't get excitable if not ridden for a couple of days.
I know that Sheila, the previous owner, did seem to have a knack of matching horse and rider - am still in touch with her occasionally and was maybe going to suggest that prospective owners also talk to her ... and was also thinking of trying to arrange a trip out there if anyone's interested .....
With these intelligent, sensitive horses it is often a matter of one person clicking with them when another doesn't - I really wouldn't claim to be a great rider, but for some reason my horse (who I think probably had a far worse background than any of those for sale) felt relaxed with me, whereas other people hated riding her. Wouldn't want to give the impression it's been entirely plain sailing, but I can honestly say I've never regretted it for an instant.
I'd love to find homes for these horses, but it's got to be a two-way benefit - really don't want to just offload them to anyone who isn't going to be happy with their horse, defeats the object really, doesn't it!
Anyhow, Nich, you must have had some good times out there, if you went back several times!! I hope so, anyway ...
Best wishes, Sue

lol verne, I was kinda hoping you would read this thread. I think a Lusitano would be a lovely addition to your horsey family, but you need to make some room first. Can we have Max please he looks lovely!

Indeed they are not. They all have lovely temperaments, but they are used to trail work, which means fast rides! They are no hacking plodder. I would say that out on a hack they require a confident rider and with some riding skill.
As a rider with confidence issues, while I was there, neither the horses or the rides were adequate for me, so I ended up by having a lesson instead.
Max is wonderful!

Agree with that, Chapsi, but don't be downhearted, peeps - the horses are (theoretically) schooled not just to bomb off but wait for aids, and my girl is happy to walk in places where we often canter, and now does a wonderful hand canter!
But no, they aren't for beginners ....
Also feel a bit ashamed asking for homes for this lot now I've seen the thread about the horses destined for slaughter .....

suer - I wouldn't worry about that - different horses and situations will appeal to different people - if I was looking out for a horse your lot sound a great proposition for me - unfortunately I'm not in the market at the moment:-(

I know people who loved Brida...I agree suer - Sheila was wonderful! I also loved Biona, who's not on the list, and Jivago, who is no longer. But I had heard that since Sheila left the rides had got less and less controlled. I think too many near novices joined the rides and things got quite dangerous.

Oh dear, people seem to be going for the horses who I think already have a home! Brida being one of them (and yes, she was lovely ...!) Damastor is her half brother, but would only recommend him for an experienced rider/owner.
Nic - I only rode there while Sheila was running the place, so have no idea how things developed, but I guess if it's closing down it must have changed? I went five times, and met lots of people who'd been there a lot too, some of them still good friends. It was a magical place then.
