;D ;D ;D hi people, well after the total disaster last time, put my thinking cap on, and decieded to break it up into small sections, and today we hacked in a really chilled, way half way down the road, (where i had the bad time last time) then i got off and walked him, a bit further, and then all the way back, he stayed chilled, calm and altogether a different horse ;D so tomorrow i will do the same again, gradually increasing the hacking time and shortening the walking time, oh big cheshire grin on face, sooooo different from the tears ;D thanks once again for all your support and sugesstions karen and co

That's fantastic news Karen, well done! You will definitely get there, no question, especially as you are listening to, and working with, your horse all the time. Chuffed to bits for you.

Dear Karen:
If you want to reward your horse when doing something right as you said you come off from the horse is best to do one more thing when you come off from your horse unfasten the girth a bit , this is the best reward for your horse , if you do this second step actually you are going one step further of coming off from the horse and this makes sure that you are rewarding.
Unfastening of girth has more than one positive meaning for the horse.
Best wishes.

Hi Kanga, and persianhorse, Kanga, i am trying to look outside the box here, what might and might not work, and i guess that concerntrating on that is actually stopping me worry-ing about what he is doing, i did have one little bit of a do, when a cyclist went passed me, Tod doesn't like to be passed and started to jog to keep up, (hence the tb brain inside a cob body ) but i just sat really calm and instead of grabbing at the reins, i just lent back, had contact one side and gradually increased the pressure on the other, and it worked ;D but he was a really good boy so happy happy chappies all round karen and co Persianhorse, thank you for your kind words, i do undo the girth when i get off, and put up the stirups, i'm afraid it is a habit i got into a long time ago, when i get off loosen girth and put up stirups, so hay i have actually been doing something right lol ;D i think today because i was expecting him to be the same as he was last time, i was ready for anything he threw at me this time

That sounds great Karen. I do this little trick... when I see stampeding cows/approaching dog/other horse, I say cheerily 'oh look Blue a cow/dog/horse.' Followed by a large inhale and bored exhale, sit up, sit back, relax. Seems to warn the horse without worrying him that something is about to come springing into view and convinces me momentarily that I'm not worried.
