I didn't feel very well so decided not to ride, but wanted to go and play with Dolce. So I suggested to OH we took his boy and my girl for a walk in hand - and it turned into 'in hand cross-country'!
we are lucky enough to have a cross country course, so we tackled:
sunken road - jump down, encourage horse to follow, clamber out and they jump after you. iolo was in and out at 1st attempt, at a crawl pace. Dolce took a while to encourage in, but once she's done it once, she was keen to do again!
drop down out of the woods (about 2.5 foot) - no option but to follow us down, inviting drop. both did it striaght away, looking very pleased with themselves
jump over a ditch with a log on top - entrance to a wood, no way round it. both did a lovely hop over.
water jump - walked in down the slope then jumped up a small wall out.
the only thing D didn't do was a broad ditch that she could too easily walk around.
I think we all had a great time, and it was more fun than walking over the tracks, because stopping them eating was a trial!!
I'm hoping this will do her confidence and mine some good. And no, I don't ever plan to do them on her back!!
