I was nosing around on horse sales sites the other day & looking at all the "bomb proof" "suitable for nervous rider" horses, just being nosey of course(as you do!) LOL! I started thinking would I replace Blue if someone waved a magic wand & guaranteed a horse to be "bomb proof" etc. Strangely enough my answer was NO because I suddenly realized I trust/know him so well & I don't think I could get that again(& I love him to bits) with a different horse. I even prefer hacking him out than my OH's schoolmistress who's an absolute angel So I really do think that most of my nerves come from that I might loose my trust in Blue rather than falling off & hurting myself ! Which I now see happened with my fall last year when he spooked & I lost my trust in him for a while. I really don't want that to happen again as it was a horrendous feeling even though in my heart I know it did us both a favor in the long run. We have a much better bond now than last year, so why am I worrying so much about it Does anyone else feel like this?..........or shall I send for the men in the white coats LOL

The bond you have with your horse sounds fab!
Lincoln can be quite nappy, but never ever in a nasty way, he is just a "wimp" and he gets quite worried. I now know that he gets his confidence from me, so I have to be the brave one (even if I don't think I am LOL!!).
Over the years I now know exactly what will worry him, so if I spot a "Tesco's carrier bag in the hedge" etc I purposefully don't look at it ;D
Nope, would not swap mine either ;D ;D xx

I don't know if I even believe in bombproof. I don't think any horse is 100%, and I don't know that we should expect it. Sounds like you are doing a great job Ang.

agreed, Kanga. I also dont believe if a horse was in a position where it could either stand there and not bother, or run for its life, im sure i know what he'd choose, theyre flight animals, afterall.
but yes, it sounds great that all your highs and lows dont make you feel the need to change whats happening with you and your horse, and thats a huge leap in itself. It must also be nice for our horses when they know we can trust them, and love them whatever.
And no, me either, i wouldnt swap my boy for the world, ever ever ever. Hence why im now saving up so i can get a new one the end of the year. lol

i totally agree with you!if you had a perfect 100% bombproof horse, you would have no goals to set for your confidence, and like kelly saidin her book perfect partners (which is my equivelent to the bible atm lol) a spooky, hyper alert horse can give you one of the most valuable educations you han have around horses. He can help you pick out the details of how a horse sees the world. You can start to learn what that is like- what a wonderful gift to have! and that is true! my mums arab spooks every 5th step, but when i asked my mum why she does not get nervous, she said she is so used to it by now and she knows sheena would never do anything dangerous, so it does not faze her. i wouldnt give gift up for the world, even though at times she makes my legs feel like jelly lol giftgirl xx

I don't believe any horse is bombproof either, how can anyone possibly predict how a horse will behave in any given situation?
I wouldn't swop my horse either - we have some major issues yes - but I've learnt so much from him in this last year and he's hopefully made me a much better horse owner because of it.
I think along the similar lines angblue, although my fear is mainly of failure, I'm afraid I'll fail so I wont give it a try. (and that's not just with horses either)
